Forums - Nintendo - GTA DS bombing? Already down to $19.99 @ Best Buy. Know your audience.

Calling the companies liars about what they feel? That is bull. If Take Two really thought the game would open like the 3D GTA games, they would have marketed it like them. They didn't.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

It's called a sale. Games go on sale and often shortly after they're released. The game is nearing half a million in sales once numbers are released for the last week. There is no doubt the game will hit one million and I think two million is likely. While that might not compare to GTA3 and after, how would it stand up against similar GTA games like GTA 1&2?

I've lost a lot of faith in Nintendo appealing to the hardcore fans but at the same time, I'll give my honest opinion on the matter. What I won't do is look for endless things to make threads about to try and rip them. At this point in the life of the DS and Wii, we've seen countless games debut relatively small only to go on to become massive hit games. I made a thread to prove exactly that point (at least for the Wii) a couple months ago.

I'll come up with something better eventually...

Well it's gone up to £23.86 from the initial price of £17.99 on Amazon UK.

The initial price was £24.99.

If it was £17.99 at any point then it was dropped in priced.

The RRP is £24.99 according to Amazon but the day it appeared on the Amazon site it was priced £17.99, as my post some months on this site states.

This will confirm the next handheld GTA game to be on the PSP since even with all the piracy LCS came to 5.6 million and VCS came to 3.3 million!

You can't blame Rockstar for trying, they seen the sheer size of the DS install base and could not ignore it anymore and this was the game to test the water and it would seem to have failed (depending on their expectation of the game)...

Hate to interject a note of reality here, but judging just from the NPD numbers (which it appears is the name of the game here) Chinatown Wars had a better opening, week-per-week, than the PSP GTA games.

This is especially important to note when you realize that those games started only a few thousand better than Chinatown Wars but chugged their way up to the millions that they have now. It appears to be a very leggy series...

Who knows why they decided to make an old-school top-down game.

Horsepower, or rather lack thereof.

Anyway let's check other stores shall we?

Wal Mart $33.82

Gamestop $34.99

Amazon $29.99

K-Mart $34.99

Toys R' Us $34.99

Anyway 1 store (well 2 if you cansider Amazon's deal a offer) is NOT a signal of a game flop. If you have a Best Buy go and check it, maybe you can find something good.

This.

One store has a sale and everyone flips-the-fuck out.

No matter how good games such as GTA Chinatown Wars on the DS or Madworld, etc. are on the Wii, it often seems like the sales numbers end up being extremely low considering the size of the userbase.  This is an important lesson that IMO developers need to be aware of.  Simply looking at the number of consoles sold is not good enough justification to make certain games.  You have to know your audience.  No matter how good GTA on the DS is, it's the wrong audience.  This becomes a self perpetuating problem.  A developer puts out a "hardcore" game, it sells poorly and it reduces the likelihood of them putting out more "hardcore" games.  Therefore, the system has a hard time attracting "hardcore" gamers which is why the game sold poorly in the first place.

Such a highly reviewed game from a MAJOR franchise, should not be down to almost half price already.

There is a difference between "core" games and "adult" games. The DS and the Wii are not directly comparable in demographics, and to be honest, your argument that they are is very simplistic, not very well thought out, and an obvious attempt at degrading the DS console by grouping it in with the Wii and pretending they have the same issues.

Compare the sales of the top "core" games on the DS to the PSP and you'll understand why you were wrong.

Once you've done that, I await your reply.

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

FYI, I own a DS and a Wii as well as a PS3. I'm not bashing the Nintendo systems. There are a lot of hypocrites on this thread because you know damn well that if this were ANY high profile PS3 game that had its price slashed so quickly you guys would be all over it. I love how all of these supposed huge Nintendo fans have crawled out of the woodwork the last couple of years since the DS and the Wii have been popular. Where were you during the Gamecube and N64 years? I was there. I bought and enjoyed both. The bandwagon jumpers on this site should take a long walk off a short pier.

is it okay your grace if i went nes, snes, ps1, xbox, xbox360?

i also owned n64, ps2 and wii

My point is that there are an awful lot of people who are now willing to defend everything Nintendo does to the death, but didn't put their money where their mouth was during the hard times.  By owning a N64, you are not being hypocritical.

And there are an awful lot of people spending every waking moment on this forum making threads and replies willing to attack everything Nintendo does to the death. You lose the right to whine about people defending Nintendo when you're the one constantly attacking them and everything related to them. That's right, the majority of your posts are always railing against something remotely related to Nintendo.

I love how all of these supposed "former" Nintendo fans come crawling out of the woodwork in the face of the success of the DS and the Wii screaming and whining about how they've been abandoned and blah blah while spending most of the time talking about specific games on Wii/DS who's supposed scarcity led them to bail on Nintendo in the first place. We get it, you can't be against Nintendo and support efforts like CTW and expect to be taken seriously be anyone. Really, we do. How dare Take-Two give the DS a GTA game. Just...how dare they!

But really, a Best Buy sale? Not a press release, a MSRP drop, you know...something remotely credible? Just one store's temporary sale? OMG FLOPZZZZ!111 I guess it's a step up over the trolls that were clinging to first week sales (and have already disappeared into the shadows after humiliating themselves), but really this latest stunt just reeks of desperation.

I imagine as CTW starts to close in on the PSP GTA sales, arguments will shift to "compared to install base" or "developer expectations." Anything to move those goal posts!
