They should have added Cloud , Mario and Squall instead of kratos , big daddy and Pacman since big daddy and Pacman isnt a character
on kratos side tho
"Why he's overrated: Kratos is not the first gaming hero to live in a world influenced by Greek mythology. But everyone seems to treat him like he is. "
who actually said that? , everyone i know says " hes an asshole but a badass asshole " which i agree lol
Hah..Lame list. Mario and Link are most overrated.Other one is plumber and other one can't talk.
Take my love, take my land..

And also directed towards Kowenicki, as he said something similar:
This is a ridiculous argument. I should not have to read multiple novels to get a comprehensive understanding of a videogame series. This discussion is about the gaming industry, the books have no reason to be considered.
Past that, in using this defense even Halo fans acknowledge how poor a characterization Master Chief is throughout the series. As the article states, you could replace him with nearly any generic action hero and no one would know the difference.
I apologize for this off-topic mini-rant, but I'm sick of that defense.
EDIT: Also, in defense of Mario/Link, it's a similar situation as in my comment to Pacman: Not many play their games because the characters are complex or relateable (Maybe some do in regards to Link - and he'd be overrated in that sense).

He said Videogame characters... this means that the character as an entirety, not just in the game itself.
And even if it was just in the game itself... Mario should still be number 1.

I think the term "videogame characters" implies that the limit, so to speak, is the videogame medium.
You never hear James Bond being referred to as a "videogame character".
With regards to Mario, read the edit in my previous post.
| kowenicki said: @quikdraw thats your opinion... the opinion of a sony fan I see... Why arent the lead characters from Resistance or Killzone2 on this list... I tell you why.. because they arent overrated... because they arent rated at all. Thats why the list is stupid. |
I'm a Sony fan because I think a horribly written character, who is one of the most identifiable characters in the industry, is overrated? I think the more likely scenario (That can be solidified by your posting history) is that you're purely a Microsoft fan.
The lead characters for Resistance and Killzone are not included because they are not nearly as popular - it's pretty simple.
If they were, I'd put them on this list as well.

I know and it's still a crappy article. Its kind of like when you see the Best and Worst Dressed List. Or Best Guitar solos of all time. They will just mention shit everyone knows, it creates a buzz, and it gets attention. You should only be ashamed for posting this piece of garbage.
| kowenicki said: @quickdraw I have to say, again, the list is stupid. On reflection, ALL videogame characters that are rated highly are over rated. There isnt a deep one amongst them.. If anyone mentions Snake I'll laugh. |
Well, obviously those that are rated highly can be - that's more or less the definition.
However, there are many instances when a popular film/game/book has a solid plot and/or character (Despite it being less likely than it should be). Snake, despite your preemptive trolling, is a complex character. Are the storylines in MGS completely unrealistic, over-the-top, and lacking in the writing department? Yes. Is Snake a complex and intriguing character? For the most part, yes - and far more so than most in the industry.
Master Chief, and the others on the list, are simply not good characters. So, because they are popular and regarded highly, they are by definition overrated. Is Sev from Killzone 2 an equally bad character? Yes, but no one said otherwise.
