That's going to be a tough one to call since the last time a Dragon Quest games was on a Nintendo system was for the SNES. I'd say FF XIII as well, but only because more people have been waiting for this game for the longest time. FFXIII definitely has more hype because of that. DQX really hasn't been hype as much worldwide like FF XIII has. Both games should sell over 1 million it's first week.

Does anyone have the release dates in Japan for these games?

I read your post wrong. I thought you were talking about DQX on the Wii. DQIX on the DS will definitely outsell FF XIII on the PS3. That's no contest there. There are over 26 million DS in Japan along. It's going to outsell FF XIII worldwide easily. At least 4+ million will get DQ IX in Japan alone.

There is a chance that DQIX first week will be more than FFXIII lifetime sale in Japan... so it's obvious who would win the opening week



MikeB predicts that the PS3 will sell about 140 million units by the end of 2016 and triple the amount of 360s in the long run.

Yes, it'll push hardware but only because of the Dragon Quest 9 DS bundle. It's likely that most of that DQ audience already owns a DS.

Given the over 8:1 DS:PS3 ratio in Japan, if DQIX doesn't outsell FFXIII something will be wrong.

I think Final Fantasy is way more popular than Pokémon in Japan...
