its pretty obvious which one will sell more.
Dragon quest is the BIGGEST franchise in japan.
its going to smack final fantasy right in the face

If by THE BIGGEST you mean "The biggest JRPG franchise", wrong, Pokemon is the biggest.

If by THE BIGGEST you mean "The biggest franchise overall", wrong, Mario is the biggest.

..and thats why japan has ordinances forbidding the release of a dragon quest game on any day but a week day.

What do you mean?

Everybody knows these two games will be huge in Japan, but which one will have more impressive sales, do you think?

Final Fantasy XIII

Approximately 1.8 million in its first week in Japan, if successful.

Dragon Quest IX

Approximately 1.6 million in its first week in Japan, if successul.

So I say Final Fantasy wins. What about you?

You should be beaten, burned to ashes then someone should throw your ashes from a plane

DQIX lol.

There's an urban legend that the Japanese parliament banned the release of DQ games on a weekday cuz too many kids and workers were taking a sick day to get their hands on the new hotness. While there is no actual law, it goes to show that Dragon Quest is a cultural phenomena here.

Anybody arguing that FFXIII has a snowflakes chance in hell of beating DQ9 should just stop. It shows that they don't understand Japan at all, and one of the biggest things about the Japanese game market. FF is popular. DQ is culturally ingrained. Hell, if DQ9 was going to be on the PS3 and FFXIII on the DS, I would still put my money on DQ9 being the winner in the sales battle here. It's like arguing that Killzone 2 has a chance of outselling Halo 3, or the Xbox 360 will sell more in Japan than the Wii in the end. It's not gonna happen. Looking at old numbers one might be lead to think the two are close in popularity but that is so not true. FF exists BECAUSE of DQ. Square emulated Dragon Quest when they made Final Fantasy as a last ditch effort to stay afloat (hence the "Final" Fantasy. It was do or die for them at the time). As it is, the more popular series is going to come out on the system with 8 times the userbase. FFXIII will be lucky to sell half of what DQ9 will sell here.

i find it stupid to believe that Final Fantasy on Ps3 is going to sell more than Final Fantasy on Ds (and therefore more than DQ on Ds)

Ps3 is not Ps2

LOL. What FF on DS? III? IV? XIII wil bury both of them combined.

Yeah, dude, I know Dragon Quest is very popular and huge in Japan. That's what I've already written, and it's cool about that urban legend and so, but I believe that in Japan, the gaming is known thanks to Final Fantasy (mostly), and I think the people in the world agree with me, that Final Fantasy is a stronger trademark than Dragon Quest in Japan.

1st week i think FFXIII will sell more than DQIX but DQIX will has much much better legs. FFXIII will drop sharply after 1st week. Just look at handheld games sales in Japan, a lot of them has great legs.

@ TheSoldier00

Omg, please just..... stop making a fool out of yourself. I think enough is enough.... just, drop it dude. Please. This is just an advice, just stop it

No, just no. Trust me on this. I grew up in Japan. I live here currently. I know what I'm talking about from first hand experience. Yes, worldwide Final Fantasy is stronger. But we are talking only in Japan, and its not debatable here. DQ is stronger, and it doesn't matter what people worldwide think on this matter. No ifs, buts or whatever. FFVII and FFVIII was the closest that series has ever gotten to DQ in popularity, but since then FF has waned. The entire JRPG genre started with Dragon Quest, so that part (where gaming is known due to FF in Japan) is blatantly false.

Trust me, you're looking at this from a western perspective, and you couldn't be more wrong.

@Dianko

It's obvious TheSoldier00 has no real knowledge on Japanese culture and just state his point based on his own impression of Japan.

@TheSoldier00
"and I think the people in the world agree with me, that Final Fantasy is a stronger trademark than Dragon Quest in Japan."

There are two problems about that statement.

1. no one on this thread even agree with you. How is that people in the world would agree with you?
2. If Dragon Quest is more popular than Final Fantasy in Japan, it wouldn't make Final Fantasy a stronger trademark than Dragon Quest in Japan even if everyone outside Japan thinks that way. It just mean everyone outside Japan is wrong and has the wrong perception. Do you really think people live outside Japan would know more about Japanese culture than people actually living there?

MikeB predicts that the PS3 will sell about 140 million units by the end of 2016 and triple the amount of 360s in the long run.
