City17, you popped my cherry. I been-a lurkin' since afore the PS3 had its brief period of topping the 360 in WW sales back in '08, with no intention to ever sign up. A happy lurker I was. But your thread made something snap so here I am.
Here is my important information.
Game consoles I have owned: Vic 20, Commodore64, Nintendo's Parachute, space invaders calculator...long hiatus...PC, PS2. The only one I still own is the PC, obviously.
Games I have loved: Nintendo's Parachute, Snackman, Paradroid, Impossible Mission, Ghostbusters (THE original one), Arkon, ArkonII Adept, Americas Cup, Manic Miner, The Necromancer, to name just a few many I can't remember the names otherwise I'd mention them. There've been a few good PS2 and PC games as well. In all honesty I think the enjoyment factor has not really gone up, the only real improvement has been the graphics (not that I want to diminish the amazing graphics advances that have been made).
My allegiances: I'd like to say I'm Switzerland, but I'm not quite that neutral. I'm a strictly one console house, because there is no way I can justify having more than one. However, I have been allowed to get away with not calling our PC a gaming machine, so I actually get to have 2
. But herein lies the dilema: all consoles this gen have their merits, and every system is well endowed with a library of quality games, be they exclusive or multiplat. We are spoiled for choice in every sense. Truly there is no best console this gen, there is only the best selling. And that is meaningless in terms of quality of gaming experience. Best sales is all on price and marketing. Who is the winner this gen? Gamers, because no matter what system you buy you will not be let down. So what am I to do? I only get one, upon what am I meant to make a choice? Simple have to go with the [exclusive] game for which I feel the love the most. The one MUST PLAY game, is it...
Halo3? Nice, but I'm no FPS fan though I do play 'em, from time to time
KZ2? Tempting, it has a good vibe to it
Gears? I'm definitely more at home in third person
MGS4? Hmmm another quality third person game
Viva Piñata? I think I'd be laughed at if it really was this one
MKWii? I do like a good racer
GoW3? Ahh the hack and slash adventure game, these I like.
Madworld? outside the box thinking, gotta respect that
Zelda: TP? A timeless classic series, I'm partial to a good adventure game
Mass Effect? RPGs such a good and varied genre
Halo Wars? Can't go past a good RTS, I've wiled away many (too many) an hour on PC RTSs
Demon's Souls? Oh! another RPG
Sing Star? I can't sing to save myself, but if you turn it into a competition I'll do my damndest and have a good time to boot, I'll even sing Madonna songs and you should hear my Rick Astley. This sort of game definitely helps get a console past the female veto; Buzz too.
Wii Fit? Ahhhh No
Some great games there, and a decent number more on all 3 systems I'd like to play. But there is only one that has me anywhere near what one could call hyped. And therefore it, by it's very existence, has determined the current gen console maker who will get my hard earned cash.
Guess it right and you get to make my sig for a month. Though if you want to put too much fancy stuff in it you'll have to help me out a bit.
Having said all that each company in this current gen is actually getting its fair share of my money via other means, just not through the console game revenue stream.
In-keeping with the sexual inuendo started by City17: fanboy slappers, keep your legs closed and we will all be the better for it. Just trying to put a stake in the ground, and leaving myself deliberatley open to charges of being a hypocrite should I ever sink to such depths. I will be talking up my chosen system, and I will celebrate its successes, but I implore you to call me out if I overstep the mark. Henceforth the word fanboy will not eminate from this keyboard, if I want to accuse anyone of this I think I'll coin a new phrase: console co-dependant.
I think that is more than enough for my virgin thread.
Happy guessing.
