However, we must also understand that the ps3 is getting back to some sort of shape in japan now outselling the Wii consistantly. I don't think it will be ffxiii alone that brings hw sales, it will be a combination of things: 1. Possible price cut 2. Gt5 3. Ffxiii versus 4. More jrpgs from 360 being porter 5. Kojima San announcing a mgs5 or ZoE at E3 6. Other exclusive jrpgs being announced on ps3 7. Eye pet and other eye toy games being announced Remember, Sony isn't just relying on 1 or 2 games to push sales this year, they are pushing sw to push hw this year. To conclude; I agree that it isn't ffxiii alone that caused the spike in sales, but I also think there will be other factors pushing hw sales in japan. |
The statement in bold is one huge message for MS.

Actually . It's people who are fans of FF who are willing to pay 400$ + ( In yen ) to get their hands on the demo. If Sony can afford it, Then they should drop the PS3 price in Japan FFXIII launch week.
A price-cut prior to FF13 release would initiate a phenomenon in sales...GT5 is to follow and GOW3 would add on the momentum...Japan is playing a great role in keeping the consistent sales pace. Not good climate for 360 in Japan..8k to 58k for current week H/W sales analysis(owing to FF13 demo release and few other games)..that's a thwarting blow to MS..,price-cut seems to have the least effect in Japan. Others to follow club soon. America shud stand for the console. Elite Bundles are incoming.

40,000 of the FF7 bundles were sold last week.
There's something I don't get. If the PS3 hadn't seen a boost at all with the demo (say, 15-20K), would that mean we'd have to upper our predictions?
But no, it hasn't been lowered. I still expect something 110K-ish ofr HW and 1.3-1.5M of SW first week

| starcraft said: Because of the success of the demo? With loads of threads already discussing the fact that the FFXIII demo may single-handedly have turned the tide of the console war this week, it stands to reason that most people in Japan who would have purchased the PS3 for FFXIII have now already done so. Given the success of the demo, how many of you have revised down your estimations for the launch week? Please give me your predictions for HW and SW sales in Japan only in launch week and lifetime (SW) for the PS3 and FFXIII respectively. |
Yes, I've lowered my expectations... From 150K PS3s to 130K PS3s, Week 1 of FFXIII release in Japan.
@zexen
Of course not, as something in line with 20k HW would've been in line with expectations.
But as we have several threads reminding us that the PS3 has exploded past where it was commonly thought it would be this week in Japan, indeed many threads are declaring this the turning point of the entire console war, we have to consider revising down our HW predictions for week one of the real game's launch. As many have pointed out, FF is strictly hardcore. Noone bought a console for the demo this week that wasnt otherwise going to get one for the full game.
starcraft - Playing Games = FUN, Talking about Games = SERIOUS
^yeah and? there are still LOTS of harcore gamers left to jump on the HD wagon in Japan of all places.
