can you guys stop flaming

Welcome to a videogame forum. Flaming is relative and often ignored, just for the mere fact that we'd have to ban 98% of the fucking asshats who care enough about games to post on a website about them.

This thread hasn't gone out of control... yet.

I'm actually surprised at that - that it hasn't spun out of control yet.  When I saw the title I looked in expecting a bloody mess of insults.

It's interesting how this gen all three contenders seem viable though, as you say.  It seems that's what most can't get their heads around - they keep waiting for the new PS2 to emerge and everything else to wilt and die - and that's looking very unlikely now.

Those who are 22 and want to argue dominance are left with little to argue this generation... Those of us who witnessed the SNES/Genesis battles; well, we have a different perspective. Hopefully some of the youngtards will learn from our mistakes.

FLAMEWAR GO

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

Thats why they should team up against Nintendo lol.

Microsoft would rather team up with Nintendo against Sony.

You say this like a statement of fact but I don't see the evidence that you draw this conclusion from.

Personally, I doubt anyone would be leaving considering the fact that everything would most likely be done cheaply next gen. That way, even if someone falls into a gamecube loophole, they'll still be making significant profit which is what corporations are about.

Don't act like you don't remember when Microsoft endorsed the whole Wii60 fad that began in the beginning of the gen when Sony had no games. Microsoft also was the first to congratulate Nintendo on the win this gen, but still showed signs that later they will focus on Nintendo.

for these reasons MS would rather team up with Nintendo?

The industry has generally only had room for 3 competitors to make a living. Any time the number has gone above 3, the consoles that did worse than that were ruinous for their companies in some way or other. Like the 2nd generation, with the Fairchild and the Oddyssey 2 getting pwned by 2600, Colecovision, and Intellivision, the 4th generation, with the also-ran Neo Geo (though one could argue what SNK's goals were, considering the type of product it was), the 5th generation with the now-forgotten 3DO and Jaguar, or the 6th generation with the Sega-bankrupting Dreamcast

Thus, i don't think Sony or Microsoft will get forced out unless another player comes in who is strong enough to do so.

Sony said the HD consoles should work together in taking out Nintendo and Microsoft refused. MS and Nintendo would definitely work together against Sony. I have no doubt about it, because they both HATE Sony.

Nintendo doesn't 'hate' anyone.  Where did you get that from?  They're the only ones keeping their mouths shut about their competitors this generation.

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

Nintendo cannot stand Sony and you know historically that they've had bad blood since a little before the Playstation made its debut. I agree that Nintendo has been keeping their mouth shut, they are more focused on raking in the cash than focusing on either of their competitors. Nintendo being passive was never my argument, but earlier in the gen Microsoft and Nintendo were both endorsing the Wii60 deal against the horrible launch price of the PS3. "Buy the 360 and the Wii for the price of a PS3."

I think gamers benefit from the 360-PS3 competition.
If one of them was out there would be a significant number of great first party games that never would have existed...

PS3-Xbox360 gap : 1.5 millions and going up in PS3 favor !

PS3-Wii gap : 20 millions and going down !
