Forums - Nintendo - Why does everyone love to hate the Wii?

Is it because the Wii is the #1 console this generation and that it will win the console war?

Is it because the Wii doesn't have as much as a good hardcore fanbase as the N64 did?

Besides Mario and Zelda, Is it because Nintendo has seem to abandon the rest of their best IPs like Star Fox or F-Zero?

Could somebody explain to me?

I am so confused and I need an answer.

proud soldier of nintopia

Because it has done a great deal better than most people expected and folks hate to be wrong and also because many feel that it is doing that well based on little else than a new control scheme, which in turn didn't live up to the expectations (my personal view anyway).
I see some value in the Wii now as opposed to the start of the gen, it just disappointed me gravely.
With a decent looking FF title on the way, Little King's Story, Zelda etc I see myself actually getting a Wii one day.
Another thing I dislike (I say dislike, I don't hate anything this gen anymore) is the price of games and gear for it, I pay more for games that look and play cheaper and I have to shell out over 200$ for one game controller (with WM+).

Because much like any kind of disruption(PS1, NES, Sony Walkman...) the current upstream doesn't see the new direction of the future. They just see the clunky unrefined present, but like the other technologies listed above they become refined, change and improve the industry as a whole.

But the hate will continue because the Wii is the unrefined toddler steps or elementary school play rather than the shakespear works of Hamlet done in London. Just remember the actors of the future will be the well nurtured from that elementary school. The critic rather than encourage the actors of the future are so full of themselves that they are pooping on the future and not seeing anything than their personal high elite standards. They don't account that the play at the school is for everyone(parent) rather than the critic, and the critic also hates and despises that it's not for him. So he just doesn't get it. And doesn't get why all the parents don't share his view on their own kids plays.

Where would we be if it wasn't for the disruption that PS1, NES for gaming and the Walkman for personal audio entertainment? It's always unrefined first.

Squilliam: On Vgcharts its a commonly accepted practice to twist the bounds of plausibility in order to support your argument or agenda so I think its pretty cool that this gives me the precedent to say whatever I damn well please.

Some of it can be chalked up to "astroturfing" and viral marketing (I suspect a fair bit of it, in fact), and from people who bought the anti-Nintendo spiel hook line and sinker. You don't hear a lot of genuine anti-Nintendo testimonials; most just rely on tired cliches and generalizations, without any sort of meaningful observations about the system that are genuinely damning.

To wit: for all the anti-Wii-Sports posts out there, not even a meaningful fraction of them bring up genuine issues with the control schemes. You'll see waves and waves of generalized "this game sucks" posts, but nobody seems to say anything detailed like "the controls in the Baseball game are very picky, and on the off chance you do land a hit, you're at the mercy of the game's randomizer to decide if your hit results in anything ranging from an immediate out to a home run". Suggesting that most of the complaints are from people who actually haven't played the game, or if they have, haven't played the game long enough to come up with actual issues.

In short, anti-Nintendo sentiment appears to be by and large from people with little to no actual experience with what they're complaining about.

Sky Render - Sanity is for the weak.

I think it's because many 'gamers' felt betrayed because the Wii wasn't decided first and foremost for them and worse, it's the top selling system meaning next gen, all systems might be aimed at the casual market first and gamers second.

Just imagine pink PS4s at launch and Facebook integrated into XBL
