So you are assuming that if the ps3 gets a $299 price point, that microsoft can in fact match that? So a $99 360? I wouldn't mind really

I don't think Sony will cut $100 off their system. Unless they truly want to lose a couple billion during the holiday season. It'll be $50 at the most. M$ will most likely cut $50 of the Pro and Elite as well. Not sure what they will do with the Arcade. They might drop it to $179. There's no doubt M$ will drop their price if Sony does.

i think a PS3 cut would be bigger but it really depends on how much each company cuts the price. However the PS3 cut would definatly attract more people than a 360 one simply because the 360 is already fairly cheap but both would increase sales

Dude, Sony cut the price of their PS2 several times even when they were already far in the lead. So that was a hollow victory?
If cutting the price of the XBox 360 help them sell more systems and keeps them in the lead, that's perfectly fine. Sony did the same thing with the PS1 and PS2. No one complained then, so why b$#@% about that now when the PS3 is far behind the competition. People keep forgetting the XBox 360 has been out longer and can afford price cuts without loses.

why would anyone be waiting for a 360 price cut now? its only $200 any lower and it wont really matter unless they cut it to $100. the ps3 is going to get an inevitable boost eventually.

dude, a demo for it sold 50k consoles. shut your mouth plz

Add to that the extra cost associated with the E74 error (or what ever it is called), I doubt M$ will be in a possition to lower the price of the Arcade. As I mentioned above, I think they will drop the price of the Pro model or at least offer a special Elite Bundle, but it will be $50 or so. No big $100 price cuts untill sales really start to fall. |
Sony, with a price cut would be losing money also, at a larger degree? Is Sony in a stronger position to lose money with the PS3, than Microsoft is with the 360?

Outside of getting a Blu-Ray player, and some exclusives, why would anyone buy a PS3 now instead of a 360, if the price is an issue? Most of the top titles are multi-platform, and not really better on the PS3 in most cases.
| Rpruett said: Why does everyone assume that Microsoft is just going to slash prices to counter Sony? Has this happened yet? Both companies have cut prices at different eventual points in time. Microsoft will cut the 360s price when the demand slows down and it makes sense for them financially. I bet the weather the storm of sales by Sony. And yes, I believe Sony will still do gangbusters if they drop the price to around $300. |
Same question is applyed to why does everyone assume that the PS3 will sell mega amounts if the price is dropped.
The bigger surprise would be if Microsoft does not counter Sony's drop with one of their own.
That said, a $299 PS3 would still sell like crazy.

It's all about the game.
