They could have pushed to have OS/2 bundled at a discount as well, but they rather a) started working on a very different and more advanced kernel for the next iteration of OS/2 that later became NT and b) started codename Chicago, that later became Windows 95, for the home market.

What would they have gained by doing this?  How was this in their best interest?  It obviously wasn't, as the road they took led them to being the software giant they are today.

MS took advantage of naive vendors and opportunities provided to them.  Both IBM and Apple could have protected themselves and they didn't.  That is how business works at that level.

I was answering to the idea that they suddenly dropped OS/2 because Windows was selling well when bundled. The reality is that they had their plans about having total control over their own OS and they had them for years while NT was developed, even when they were still paying lip service to the agreement with IBM.

As for the "obviously", hindsight is 20/20.

I concur MS has always been at the helm of strangling the competition.. but instead of blaming them for it, I'd like to blame the governments of NA/EU and asia.. the fines they levy on MS.. are peanuts. wer talking bout a company that can lose over$4 billion on a product( the x box brand) and still continue to sell it, for years.. any fine less than a couple of billion is a joke for MS...

I still support the "lets split up MS into 2-3 entities"theory.. it makes a lot of sense.

Apple in my opinion is a lil worse, they contro lthe hardware and the software for their products. I cannot imagine how they would be if they had as much power as MS did.

I agree with pretty much everything stated. I always used to tell my Ex back when she still worked for Apple that they would be vastly more iron fisted with the competition if they ever dominated the market. Also, arguing that this would be a bad thing would be near impossible. Look how many people defend microsoft as the great innovator now. Imagine what the backlash would be if the company actually produced decent (if overpriced) products.

Really? All your philosphical name dropping and econ-technic language and you reveal yourself to be an Apple fanboy? Dissapointing. I always hope for intelligent opposition. Oh well, I guess I'll keep looking around.

EDIT: I would love for you to specifically define what a "scam" is in your previous post. You inject so much morality and prejudice into your posts, it's hard to tell what you mean pejoratively and what you are actually saying.

and we care because??? I love my xbox and i have almost exclusivly used PCs and i have no problems with them. I could care less if a company is so good at what they do that other companies cannot move in with their either inferior or pretty much the same products (aka IE and firefox/chrome or u name it)

Microsoft is the scum of the earth with many of their unethical business pratices, nothing new. I'm glad that MS were forced to make Internet Explorer optional on Windows 7.

lol. No one forced MS to make it option. They did it on their own.

can you please go and research before posting false accusations, they got sued for it!

Aside from that fact you're imagining I made any type of accusation, you clearly know what you're talking about since a man of your brilliance doesn't hit quote unless they have factual evidence to support their claim, right?...So humor me and go find me the source where it says MS was forced to make IE8 optional.

actually it was forced first , it asked me to confirm configuration though  >_>.

then on the vista machine when i reformated a week ago got optional.

they already had a antitrust case in EU. with IE 7.

so they probably try to avoid more problems.

^ lol smart ass!

I agree they did it, on there own, to avoid more problems. But I also think it has to do with Steve Ballmer taking over as CEO from Bill Gates. They've made some changes and decisions in the past year that are a bit unprecedented for MS.

They have their own mall, did other mall companies get a say in this? NO! Therefore they are anti-competitive.

Tease.

I do not own, nor have I ever purchased an apple product. I am currently posting this on an asus laptop running debian. This has to be the first time I've ever been accused of being an apple fanboy.

Explain. You've got me interested now.
