You clearly know what you're talking about since a man of your brilliance doesn't hit quote unless they have factual evidence to support their claim, right?...So humor me and go find me the source where it says MS was forced to make IE8 optional.

 

actually it was forced first , it asked me to confirm configuration though  >_>.

then on the vista machine when i reformated a week ago got optional.

they already had a antitrust case in EU. with IE 7.

so they probably try to avoid more problems.
