If you named your character it was FE7.

About Ike: Aether makes him one of the best characters of the series. Without it he would still be decent, but that skill is way overpowered.

 Really? Here's the RD stuff.

Proc rate: skill/2

Skill cap (he'll hit it): 40.

Proc rate at 16 and up: 20%.

Damage done:

Sol part = regular damage

Luna part = regular damage, but with a 50% defense lowering.

Essentially, it does

Double dmg + enemy def *0.25

And it heals you for 50% of total damage.

So, overall it adds

+ 40% damge + enemy def *0.05

Heals you 10% of your damage.

Now, take Stun, with Haar.

Proc rate: Skill rate.

Haar's skill: 38

Proc rate at 16 and up: 38%

Damage done:

3x base damage

Stuns 1 round, which equals pretty much 1.5x more (assuming that he'll double 50% of the time, which is pessimistic). Now, this round now has a 49% chance of dealing yet another stun (enemy won't be stunned for yet another round though). That would triple the damage, so it's really *2.25 of base damage here

In total: 5.25 times of base damage.

Overall:

Adds 199% damage. Or essentially, triples it.

And it's that, vs

+ 40% damge + enemy def *0.05

Heals you 10% of your damage.

I'd say Haar's Stun is a fair bit better.

Oh, and one thing. Haar's stun makes your enemy unable to attack. That's in 38% of the cases, so if he attacks - he'll prevent the enemy from attacking twice. That's a fairly big bonus, maybe even as large as Ike's + 10% of damage healing.

Edit:

Anyone think that, in a later game, Vanguard could be the 3rd tier of Mercenary?

I mean, it goes Mercenary > Hero

Ike went Hero > Vanguard.

The Lord part was simply a detour, and when he resigned it he got his "true" rank, hero.

Look at Aether; it's essentially the Mercenary crit. And Ike is a Mercenary.

I want Aether as the mercenary attack :D

If you enjoyed it, you might consider trying Fire Emblem: Sacred Stones which is also on the GBA.

Since you have a Wii, you might also check out Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance (Gamecube) and Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn (Wii).

This thread really went off topic. Does anyone actually know when the next Nintendo dream comes out, so I can find out if I get to enjoy some new FE greatness?

It didn't really go off-topic. We moved another thread into this one, to avoid having 2 Fire Emblem threads on page 1 all the time.

Blade Lords are essentially Swordmasters. Why not wish that Trueblades could learn Bows?

I wish that you could get 3 items that were "promote into lord" items. You could use them on any unit (like a Master Seal works), but it turns them into either Great Lord, Master Lord, Knight Lord or Blade Lord (depending on the situation).

That would be neat.

I didn't say I wished for Swordmasters who can use bows.  I said I wish for a Blade Lord class.  Lyn's promoted self was a Swordmaster with bow proficiency exactly (caps are the same), but I'd kind of like something more interesting.  Not sure what that would be but I'm thinking the Radiant Dawn skill-system could make something interesting.

while statistically it does look like Haar's is better, I mean seriously if they ever activate is anyone alive anyways for Haar or Ike, so stun is pretty pointless effect.  Plus with Ike you never have to worry about healing yourself.  Though pysics i always have a shit ton anyway so whatever.

but Haar only gets 32-33 or something speed max.  so in that later levels he stops double attacking, so since Ike attacks twice versus Haar's once, Ika has a better chance of his occult to occur.

Don't worry, that's how all Fire Emblem threads end up, lol.

I think we have one of the most hardcore FE fans on this site. The official thread for Radiant Dawn is iirc still the 3rd biggest thread for a Nintendo game, only beaten by the juggernaut Brawl thread (actually threads, since the first one got so big it crashed the site) and Mario Kart.
