If Yakuza broke even then I'm sure Valkyria Chronicles did too.

But wait, I thought HD games needed to sell multi-millions to do that? lulz

The commonly-quoted break even point for HD consoles is around 500,000 sold. Yakuza 3 is at the break-even point.

Quick! What are Yakuza 3's LTD sales?!

So without the Kenzan engine it might of took 1 million sales.

Interesting.

That's not too surprising, to be honest, since from what I can see this is a pretty high-quality game; reusing the engine may have saved a ton of time (and therefore cash), but an engine is barely half the battle.

I would also like to point out that Sega's revenue is from shipped copies, not sold copies. Are there any reports about the amount of shipped copies?

and that's why I think localizing the game would help.

shipping 250k to NA , Europe and Asia seems possible = pure profits.

AND HERE IS SOME SHIPMENTS NUMBERS:

http://vgchartz.com/forum/thread.php?id=64672

but that's old.....

I don't know if 250k is possible or not (not enough data to tell), but I'll just say this: retailers are not stupid, surely they have sales data on the previous Yakuza games to determine an appropriate shipment size.

I don't know either, I am just hoping ^^

also I said "250k" in 3 big regions , I think any game can ship that amount of copies.

If it was that easy to make more money, they would surely do the localization.

They said they shipped 500k not too long ago.

Consider the fact that most of the retailers around here didn't even carry Yakuza 2, I think it did alright. Only place around here that even sold Yakuza 2 was Gamestop. Also, the game was released late in the PS2 age. With actual advertising, this game could be moderate to huge in other places in the world.

Which... I wouldn't count on.  There is nothing to suggest it won't be treated the same way.

Also... there is no gurantee it that advertising would produce great results... and advertising costs money.

Considering the amount of hype surrounding the game over the last 6 months in the US and the way the game has been praised by some as "greater then gta iv" people might have interest in the game at least. Not only that, but I think most people are more concentrating on the HD aspect then anything else. Meaning Ps2 sales wouldn't always be the highest.

How'd hype work for Zack and Wiki?  Or Madworld?  Or Valkira Chronicles?  (SRPG but it's had at least equal buzz.)

Buzz means little in terms of raw numbers.

3rd Party on the Wii is different then 3rd party for the PS3. Also, as you pointed out, Valkyria Chronicles is SRPG, therefore fits into the "niche" category. Besides....all of those games sold well more then 100k (well not sure about madworld but I think it's almost there at least), way more then the 50k that Yakuza 2 got.

Yakuza 1 and 2 also had a lot of buzz though when they released in Japan.

Are you talking about buzz in japan or here?

Here... by english people.  I mean... all the time people were saying "When is this going to be released here!"

The people making the buzz by and large are people that already own 1 and 2.

Oh noes,I hope the conduit doesn´t follow the same path as madworld(in terms of sales.)

Did Valkyria C. profit, break even or not?

We don't really know, but I imagine that if you count all the money from licensing, etc. then I think they broke even.

If you include the engine and none of the outside stuff, then most certainly not.

I really hope they do. Too bad all we can do so far is assume.

I'd do my part with the add-ons if they bundle it at a lower price.
The way they're selling it, I can only justify buying one add-on.
