It's not that annoying anymore when you realise that the wii is the only current gen console offering 100% backwards compatibility.

Thats because its just two GCs strapped together!

Kidding, kidding =P

Anyway, you need a GC memory card. It's dirt cheap now.

They are?!?!

The ones in stores are as expensive as ever, and I'm not even sure Nintendo makes them anymore. First party ones in online auctions are probably more expensive than ever, because all the Wii owners who didn't have a Gamecube, and some of the ones who did, want one. As for third party ones, I'm not touching them ever again after the last one corrupted all my saves. >_<

They really aren't. Head down to Gamestop and buy a used one for 10 bucks. A Memory Card 251 should be all you need, they have the 1019 if you're going to play tons of Gamecube games on your Wii.

EDIT: If you can't find a first-party memory card at Gamestop (the one near me has several) you can order a Memory Card 251 from Nintendo.com for $20.  I'm sure BBY or Target or similar places also have them.

Hey, I have a PS3, and PS3 can CREATE internal, digital PS1 and PS2 memory cards. For free. And I have yet to find a game in my PS1/2 library that doesn't work in it.
Seriously. I have copies of all 6 of my PS2 memory cards in there, and both of my PS1 memory cards, plus a brand new one that didn't exist before I created it. Wii is nice, but it does kind of bug me that it still needs memory cards for GC games...especially since it seems to have some minor trouble detecting the only GC memory card I have. Also considering the fact that it basically has a hard drive too.

The PS3 is emulating, the Wii is running it natively. Because it is emulating, the PS3 can do things differently than the Wii can. The Wii has absolutely perfect backwards compatibility, the PS3 doesn't. It's a trade-off. They would have to make drastic changes to the wii's "gamecube" system to get it to work like the PS3's backwards compatibility, and it would break the "perfect" backwards compatibility that the Wii offers now.

Nobody is crazy enough to accuse me of being sane.

Also, you don't have to turn the Wii off. You just have to hit the reset button when you want to exit the world of gamecube.

No, you have to turn it off.  If you press the reset button, it reboots in Gamecube mode.

i think if you eject the game and do it, it won't. argh. i'm not at home and i don't remember now, but someone (possibly here) posted something about how to do it without shutting it off and i was able to do it. hmm, going to google this now...

I do know that the Wiimote becomes useless after you start a Gamecube game, to the point that the power button doesn't work, and neither does the "home" button. If anybody can think of a way to get back to the wii menu without using the wiimote...
