With recent monthly market figures suggesting the videogame industry is not immune to the pressures of recession and that hardware leader Nintendo could finally be losing momentum, the Japanese gaming giant has indicated its intent to arrest any negative shift with a selection of significant software releases. With a clear air of confidence, Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime reacted to the recent downturn by telling the Reuters news agency Nintendo has major games in the pipeline that will inspire “very strong hardware sales” for both the Wii and DS platforms. According to recently revealed NPD Group figures for March, the U.S. videogame industry has suffered a 17 percent year-on-year drop with regard to the performance of hardware, software and related accessories. However, with the eagerly anticipated Wii Sports Resort and Nintendo’s Wii MotionPlus control enhancer already confirmed for a closely-aligned summer arrival, Fils-Aime’s bold posturing could well mean the long awaited unveiling of new editions of Legend ofZelda and Mario on the Wii. Although still firmly entrenched in the realms of speculation, videogame history suggests that any major announcements sitting up Nintendo’s software sleeve are likely to be rolled out during its keynote presentation at the upcoming E3 Expo in Los Angeles, which is due to take place between June 02 and June 04. While Nintendo’s consoles remained the hottest hardware property on the U.S. market in March, with the Wii pulling in 601,000 sales and the DS following close behind with 563,000 sales, only the Microsoft managed to post year-on-year improvement with 330,000 sales of its Xbox 360. http://www.thetechherald.com/article.php/200917/3504/Nintendo-has-major-software-releases-up-its-sleeve Majic tricks are good!
