Forums - Sony - Convince me to buy a PS3!

So, Here is the deal, my first gaming system was an xbox, which I bought for Halo, the first video game I ever played. Then I bought Halo2 as well as a few other games. Now I have a 360 with Halo 3, and a few other games.  I love first person shooters...thats about the only genre I enoy ( I SUCK at driving games, and havn't really gotten into role playing games), although I did enjoy GOW very much. I like that the PS3 has blueray and upconverts DVDs fairly well (from what I hear) I would also like to try Killzone & Killzone2 as I hear they are pretty good. I like the idea of being able to play online, and I like the fact that I can use practically any hard drive in the thing. But right now, with the limited amount of gaming I do, the fact that I have no blu-ray discs, the fact that the console is huge, the price tag, and the fact that I just don't like the feel of the controllers, are keeping me from buying one.

O.T. This topic is NOT meant as a bash on either console because they both have their ups and downs. Also, I don't want any fanboys coming in and trashing this thread. I am not an Xbox fan boy, nor a PS3 fanboy, I just want to get opinions from people who own a PS3...and possibly a 360 (for a more obective comparison?) Thanks!

I'll give you a good reason..

The PS3 has great games!

Even a few exclusives

If you're unsure about the Ps3, or don't like some aspects then don't get it. I payed full price on launch day for my Ps3 because I wanted it fully, no doubts. Love the games, love the controllers, love the system.

It's a fair bit of money to spend, so you really gotta be 100% sure whether you want it or not. The hardware is well worth the money it costs, but do you REALLY want it?

If you really like shooters, then I think you'd really like Resistance and Killzone!

That is all.

It has Tales of Vesperia!

Anyway, reasons to buy a PS3?

-Blu-ray
-Free internet (although it's also free if you don't buy one...)
-Killzone 2
-Uncharted
-Tools of Destruction
-MGS4
-LittleBigPlanet (it may look stupid, but it's brilliant.)

I've even written reviews for LBP and KZ2. Read them, have a look.

In the future:

-God of War III (You even said GOW in the OP ) lol, I know you meant Gears, but GoW is awesome too.
-Uncharted 2
-RaCF: A Crack in Time
-inFamous
-Heavy Rain
-MAG (Massive Action game, a 256 player online FPS)
-Quantum Theory (which is a Gears clone)
-And many more...look in the PS3 exclusives thread.
-RUMOURED: Software backwards compatibility for the PS2 being patched in.

So, I would highly recommend the PS3, but in the end, it's your decision to make.

EDIT: You mentioned reasons for not getting one:

-The price tag. It's not that high, but I can't deny that it's pretty expensive.

-It's big. So? I'm sure you can fit it somewhere. It's pretty much the same size as the 360.

-The controller feels bad. You'll get used to it, everyone does.

-You don't own any blu-ray discs. You will, in the future.

And as for shooters on the PS3, there are a few worth mentioning.

-All the multiplat ones, including UTIII which is actually better on PS3

-Resistance: Fall of Man

-Haze (lol)

-Resistance 2

-Killzone 2 (by far the best)

-Ratchet and Clank and Uncharted are almost-shooters, but they have a fair bit of focus on platforming as well.

-MAG in the future

-Resistance 3, Killzone 3, A Crack In Time, Uncharted 2, etc. in the future.

But it's always good to try new genres. In fact, I hated FPS before this gen, and now CoD4 and KZ2 are two of my favourite games.

for the next 50 pages all u will see is fanboy vs fanboy and then ps3 fanboy posting what games to get

Well, if you liked Gears, then you should like Uncharted (I know it's not the same thing, but at least the cover system is the same...system), and MGS4, which has everything (including First Person Shooting).
But if you don't have enough time for games anyway, and you only like shooters, I don't really see the point of it yet. Wait for the elusive price drop, and then get the gaming console that will work well as a future proof movie player, if all else fails.

There's much overlap between the 360 and PS3 regarding available first person shooters. For exclusives IMO Killzone 2 and Resistance 2 are the two best ones available. Then you have great 3rd person shooters like Warhawk, Uncharted and MGS4.

the fact that the console is huge

It's big compared to a slimline PS2 or Wii, but not compared to the 360 especially if you take into account the 360's huge external power supply (which is internal with the PS3). Also factor in the PS3's slick slot loading drive (vs tray) and potential ugly external upgrades on the 360 like a Wi-Fi adaptor which is already built-in.

There are alternative controllers available, I personally prefer the Dual Shock 3 controller.

Maybe wait a little if you are unsure about price and form factor, it may well be Sony is planning for a cheaper and slimmer PS3 for later this year. Maybe MAG will be available by that time as well, which is sounding like an interesting FPS.

Naughty Dog: "At Naughty Dog, we're pretty sure we should be able to see leaps between games on the PS3 that are even bigger than they were on the PS2."

PS3 vs 360 sales

I HEAR IT IS MADE OF CANDY!!

On topic, even if you buy a PS3, you won't be able to play Killzone 1, and you wouldn't want to anyway, I hear it's not very good.

If you already have a 360, then it is hard to blow 400 €/$ in a PS3

I got one on eBay for 250 € which is a real bargain (3 months old with warranty - 80 gb model), ideal for Blu-Ray and a couple of game.

I took MGS4, KZ2, LBP and Wipeout HD.... but to me, the retail price is still way to high to justify what it can do next to a 360...

Besides, I'm a hardcore online player and this is so poorly implemented...

So I won't be of any help to convince you ... except if you are motivated by the games library like I'am... not by the plateform...

Evan Wells (Uncharted 2): I think the differences that you see between any two games has much more to do with the developer than whether it’s on the Xbox or PS3.
