Forums - Nintendo - The Wii is in its most unhealthy condition since it hit the Japanese market

O man.... now there's going to be 3 or 4 "why the Wii hate threads" because of this thread...

I think people are starting to realize that their aren't that many great games for the Wii, that and the Wii is focused on the younger generation, and it's true, ya it comes out with a few kickass games (for the hardcore Nintendo fans), but the Wii's "focus" is on the younger crowd..

Don't believe me.. look at the games, if that doesn't do you justice go hang out in a Wii Game section for 30min, see how many kids are in that section with their parents, or just Soccer moms picking up a birthday present...

And the 3rd party games need to just be better, plain and simple..

excuse me, I have to go clean out my inbox to make room for the hate mail..

hey both sega and thq are trying really hard to support the wii with games.

i was commenting on the last paragraph to be honest

Almost every company is trying to do that, I think that there should be a balance between both markets and things'll be dandy for everything, but for some strange reason Nintendo drops the oportunity to keep strong in Japan by just releasing 2 "strong" games the last quarter of 2009 (Wii Music and Animal Crossing)

Japan is probably the last "traditional" market, game consoles sales depend a lot of the games released during certain periods, America and Europe have changed.

So my point still stands. I bet you that when the sales of Wiifit dies down in NA EU the Wii's sales will die down with it

Nobody's perfect. I aint nobody!!!

Killzone 2. its not a fps. it a FIRST PERSON WAR SIMULATOR!!!! ..The true PLAYSTATION 3 launch date and market dominations is SEP 1st

We can trust the Economist.

With respect to the OP
-- That same story has been done before (the quote is at least a week old). And while true, it ignores the fact that Nintendo has not released a lot of hardware driving software lately, especially in Japan.

With respect to the comments about game sales
-- What kind of games do people want to see on the Wii.
-- And if people are buying games, that means games are selling.

This is true, but its because the revolution really didn't quite take root in Japan as it did in other territories. The whole evergreen effect that has been institutionalized in NA and Europe just isn't as strong there.

What Wii needs is software, and software is what it's getting. For the rest of this year, it probably has the strongest lineup in Japan, between the Monster Hunter games, Wii Sports Resort, and a few other beloved J-games set to arrive later in the year. The problem is now, right now, and thus temporary. Monster Hunter G sets it up with a short-term boost that should at least keep it competitive with the PS3 until Wii Sports Resort, and when is Monster Hunter 3 supposed to drop?

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

I doubt MHG will have any considerable effect. I wouldn't be surprised if PS3 manages to beat the Wii the week MHG gets released.

To put it shortly, Wii will remain with bad sales, head to head with the PS3 until WSR arrives, even then, sales could dip really fast, since we don't know how big the WSR boost/effect will be. If Nintendo plans on promoting M+ with only a casual game, then it will probably fail terribly there. It's really stupid to launch an accessory with only one part of the audience in mind. As you can see what's keeping the Wii at abysmal levels is the lack of core content. Having 2 big games to sell M+ would be a better idea, one for the casual audience and one for the core audience, but I'm not fooling anyone here, I doubt we will see another WM+ game from Nintendo until 2010 at the earliest.

Why is it that most of us can clearly see that the Wii software drought is the reason for slowed Wii sales in Japan, but people like sega4life and Carl think it's because people are tired of Wii?

What is it that makes this difference in perception?

Is it as simple as some people being reasonable and others just stating what they hope is happening?

To be fair, though, none of the stationary consoles have had overly impressive sales this gen in Japan, especially in the last six months or so.
