I saw the remake of "The Day the Earth Stood Still,"  it was an okay movie I thought, but I can fully understand why people were dissapointed with it, even to a point where someone might say it's not a very good movie.  Then I got a question running through my mind, what movie shouldn't be remade no matter who gets the rights to do it?

The first single movie that comes to my mind is "A Clockwork Orange," since the message the movie portrays, I think, just wouldn't resonate with today's audience and I don't think anyone could really do any justice to the original. In terms of movies with a certain star, I say any Charlie Chaplin movie because these movies are classic because they are silent movies, and every one of Chaplins' characters are supposed to be ones who the audience could be able to relate to.

So what movies do you think shouldn't be remade no matter what?

Almost no movies should be remade. Remakes are often just a shameless cash cow. That's not to say that all remakes are bad. There are only two I can think of that were actually better than the original:

Cape Fear
The Hills Have Eyes

Remakes should only be made when the people involved love the original and have something new or interesting to say about it.

This is almost never the case, so they almost all suck. But I'm not against the idea entirely.

to save us a lot of crap, no movies should be remade. I don't mind missing out on 1 good remake every decade or so

Hated 'The Manchurian Candidate' remake - but loved the original with Baby Blue Eyes.

Also didn't like 'War of the Worlds' much either - and wasn't a big fan of 'The Longest Yard.'

However, some remakes are totally smoking like 'Man on Fire,' 'Cars' ('Doc Hollywood' remake) and even 'Scarface,' though I liked the original as well.

I'd hate to see 'Top Gun,' 'Aliens' and 'The Final Countdown' remade, though.

Never.

With the exception of movies based on other ip's in different mediums like comic books or novels. They can get remade every so often.
