Forums - General - If you discovered a cure for a horrible illness, what would you do?

Let's say it is a horrible illness like Cancer or something. You were walking down the street one day and it dawned on you what the cure is. You go to the patent office and get it patented so people can't steal it off you. You then get approached by two companies...

Company A is in it for the profit. They want to sell the drug for a lot of money. You will get $1000 for each patient cured, ensuring you to become a rich and live the rest of your life at ease.

Company B is in it for the people. They want to sell the drug for manufacturing costs so it is affordable to everyone. They want to know if you would give drug to them for free, so you would never see a penny off it.

Would you choose Company A or Company B?

(Also, for arguements sake, if you choose Company B you can't go off and work for some massive pharmaceuticals company for $1,000,000 a year lol.)

--edit--

I think there has been some misunderstanding int this thread actually. You yourself get a $1000 for each cured patient with A. The company wants to shake down people, because they know people have to pay it if the value their lives. They will go for A LOT of money, maybe tens of thousands of dollars, you get a share of the profit essentially.

a. i buy lotsa game and toys!!!

I would make all my research money back, then I'd make enough to live comfortably on it and my kids set for life So I guess since I only have 2 choices I have to pick A.

Honestly, there are more than 2 choices in this life, so I'd pick a better approach that would maximize profits, since charging 1k per cure may not lead to maximized profits. I could probably sell it for $100/cure and still make good money on it, and almost everyone could afford $100 to be cured.

Ah, the inspiration for this thread came from a true story I heard about this guy who invented a brain scanner and two companies wanted to buy it. One wanted to give them away for cheap operating on a non-profit basis and the other wanted to make millions off them. In the end he chose the one which made them for everyone. But I thought it would be interesting to see what people would say in a similar hypothetical situation.

As long as no one is making any money from it then i'd be happy to go with company B.

Yah you say that now but when you get that cure you'll sell it for a million dollers! Each.

Interesting. Honestly, if two companies aproached me, and neither of them wanted to do what I wanted I'd find a 3rd company. There are tons of medical supply companies, and I'm sure you could find one willing to make what you want and sell it at enough profit to keep them happy, and cheap enough to keep you happy.
