Keep in mind we aren't a single entity....

You don't fool me. You're all part of a massive hive mind, directed by Naznatips.

Just saying. What you mean is that Maxwell gave Chains of Olympus a 7.9, and then Naznatips gave Mega Man 9 a 9.2

Yes, but it does damage the reputation of the site when you have rubbish reviews like that CoO one, I am still shocked by it. Anyway, my favourite reviewer is really me, I particularly respected my review of Uncharted, it was fantastic....

Anyway, the review which I actually bother to read/watch are IGN, gametrailers, OPM UK and Yahtzee's (well I suppose they are more for entertainment)

I'd like to say again that we're not a single entity.

Yahtzee. Despite the humour he does manage to give games a good review - i.e. good points and bad points. "Real" reviewers seem to have forgotten how to do that.

why not VGChartz?

They give Chains of Olympus a 7.9, then Mega Man 9 a 9.2

They give Uncharted the same score as Civilisation Revolution

And the fact that they take forever to review everything...they review random crap like DiRT, while an amazing game like CoD4, two and a half years on, is still review-less.

I personally like IGN, because I agree with them 9/10 of the time, unlike most reviewers.

lol

Anyway why is CoO review rubbish? Was 7.9 too low?

IMO the worst was the 8.2 score to Fallout 3. I guess it's pure luck that Oblivion hasn't been reviewed by VGC.

Would you do me the favor of reading my God Hand review and tell me if it's lacking in any particular way? I am always looking to improve.

IMO the worst was the 8.2 score to Fallout 3. I guess it's pure luck that Oblivion hasn't been reviewed by VGC.

The game deserves over 9, there is a reason that is the best rated game on metacritic for PSP, and only 2 DS games can beat it. The entire review was just moaning, ignoring the fact that the actual gameplay is incredible. Also, one major flaw with the VGC review system is that value is a criteria. He moaned that it only last 5 hours, saying in the comments that he expects it to last 10 hours, despite the fact that it would make the game feel feel repetitive, and it would not be as fun as it is. It scored a 6 in the value criteria, dropping the whole score down dramatically, quality over quantity. It also only managed 9.0 in presentation despite being the best looking game on PSP, and only 8 in gameplay. Also, I got the game for £9, so does that mean when I review it I can give it a higher score for value.

EDIT: I just saw the reason that he decreased the presentation score, complaining tearing, which is just not true. It does pause for a second, but that is only because there are no loading times in the game

Chains of Olympus didn't deserve more than a 7.9. Even that was probably being generous.

I don't mean to discuss VGChartz reviews specifically, it appears that I've allowed myself to be pulled off-track.

It's fallacious to take a website as a uniform source of reviews or opinions, because the majority of websites employ many different reviewers with many different perspectives and experiences that they bring to the table. Hillary Goldstein and Matt Cassamassina are not the same reviewer, and IGN Wii's reviews have to be considered separately because the scores these two award may not mean the same thing. Peer Schneider's 10 isn't going to be the same as Matt's 10, or Doug's 10.

One of the problem with the perception of game reviews is that people insist that sites should be viewed as solitary and uniform review sources, as if there is a collective that functions as a single reviewer. THat's incorrect.

I hope the importance of the individual reviewer will come back into prominence for gaming criticism at some point.

@ ameratsu, shockingly I see the game missing from your game collection
@ khuutra, yeah, saying IGN is trustworthy is not always true as their are of course going to be some good reviewers and some bad reviewers. I heard that the Wii guys were shocked when they saw the 10's for GTA IV and MGS 4, as they thought they couldn't give them, or else SMG would have got one

I don't own a PSP, but I played through the entire game on a friend's PSP during the busride for a snowboard trip. Beat it in pretty much one sitting, and yeah, a 7.9 is about right or a little generous. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for watery version of the PS2 GoW games.
