I don't mean to discuss VGChartz reviews specifically, it appears that I've allowed myself to be pulled off-track.

It's fallacious to take a website as a uniform source of reviews or opinions, because the majority of websites employ many different reviewers with many different perspectives and experiences that they bring to the table. Hillary Goldstein and Matt Cassamassina are not the same reviewer, and IGN Wii's reviews have to be considered separately because the scores these two award may not mean the same thing. Peer Schneider's 10 isn't going to be the same as Matt's 10, or Doug's 10.

One of the problem with the perception of game reviews is that people insist that sites should be viewed as solitary and uniform review sources, as if there is a collective that functions as a single reviewer. THat's incorrect.

I hope the importance of the individual reviewer will come back into prominence for gaming criticism at some point.
