Honestly, not really. Or at least, I found it average when it released as well. I went and bought the Gamecube version later on, just to see if I missed anything, but it didn't do it for me then either.

Ship battles are cool, though.

That's right, and you misquoted me. Nice job. You basically said that a bunch of things about the game were mediocre but it was still a good game. And so what if it's overrated? Tales of Symphonia isn't the best RPG about there but it's still singled out as a great one (I use this example because you're a big fan of the game).

not as overrated as tales series, i kid :P

skies of Arcadia had average basic battle system, the story was not the best but still i enjoyed the game and it is one of my favorite rpg's, because it had a adventuring feel, skies made me feel like a sky pirate, seeing the sky islands of different cultures and discovering landmarks and islands was my favorite part of the game, recruiting crewmates for the ship was fun also.

i thought the characters were great, vyse had a lot of courage and he always knew what he was suppose to do you never see him lost or crying. gilder was the only character who i felt didn't belong in the group, he had nothing to do with story and the game would have been fine without him, but he was awesome.

Somebody is going to end up doing a "Tales of Symphonia Is Overrated" thread.
