For me to sum up this gaming generation in one word is impossible. Although, there has been some great moments this gen, we have had more bad momentsw and huge disappointments overall. Many say that this gen will end in one year or two years or in three years. Whenever it ends, I think I will look back and say "This was the worst generation so far"
Here's my reasons:
Sony:
Sony had probably the most successful gaming generations a company in this inudstry could ever have. The PS2 became the best selling console of all time. As the 6th generation was coming to a close, PS2 wasn't ready to die. As I give you this article, the PS2 remains to be alive in this generation. As I was getting ready for the new generation, I was prepare for Sony's next console and the question in my mind was "How could they top the success of the PS2?" I was soon about to find out but unfortunately I wouldn't see what was coming. When E3 came around the corner, Sony was ready to unveil the Playstation 3. The sequel to the best selling console of all time. When Sony announced that the Playstation 3 would be at the retail price of $599.99, I was shocked! How could any console be priced at 600 dollars. As time went on I understood why it was expensive because of the kind of hard drive that was used into making the PS3. Now, when I heard how much the console would be. I didn't quickly jump to buy the console.
So I waited two years or so for them to drop the price. As was glad I waited, because the line-up for the console's launch was weak. I mean sure they had Resistance but come on! I didn't know what to expect from Resistance. As I look back I tried to imagine what would happen if they released FFXIII and Metal Gear Solid 4 during the game's launch. Of course, I came back to reality after day dreaming. Anyways, when my mother bought the ps3 for me on black friday, I was so happy. Because she spent $100 less on the console. The price was still high but the price drop helped a bit.
Now, I am going to discuss the games:
There were a couple of games I was excited for when I bought the PS3. The number one game on my list was Metal Gear Solid 4. I was so excited about the game and hyped up for it. Around this time, made an account on vgchartz. I was so excited about MGS4 that I decided to promote the game on this new weekly article I created. What was it call again? Oh yeah! Real Talk with Snake612! Anyways, when the game was finally released, I bought the game. Well, the day after it was release. Soon enough I just wasn't excited about the game but i was excited to see what the sales would be and i wasn't disappointed. The game sold more than 1 million copies first week! It became the best selling exclusive on the PS3. After a couple of months, I was hoping to see another exclusive game sell more than a million first week on the PS3. Lets just say I am still waiting. I don't think its that big of a deal for most of the games on the PS3 to sell more than 1 million first week. Its just that out of all the exclusive games the PS3 has have, why is it there has only been one game to sell more than 1 million first week?
Now sure there's been many other top selling games that came after MGS4 release like LBP and Killzone 2.
Overall, I think Sony has failed so much this generation that I question if they could ever bounce back next generation. But only time will tell.
I think Sony has also failed to advertise the PS3. They are still try to sell more PS2. I mean, its 2009, I think its about time, Sony prepares to discontinue the Ps2 in the near future. I think they need to put more focus in the PS3. They should try to push the console more with better ads. I think they need to really look at a price drop as one of their solutions to help push the sales of the PS3.
Well thats my reason for why Sony has let me down this generation. I have more to say about this but I rather say the rest for a Real Talk article.
TO GOD BE THE GLORY
