I really don't know what is a "main franchise" game when you are talking about pokemon... all the same.
How did monster hunter do on ps2? That should give you some clue how monster hunter will do on wii.

The trouble is, Mario Kart Wii is only at 2.2 million in Japan right now. So you're predicting that MH3's minimum is to match Mario Kart and push into Wii Fit and Wii Sports territory (3.3 and 3.5 million). Your expectations are simply stratospheric. |
Forgive me for not mentioning, but I meant WW, my mistake. MH3 has amassed tons of hype after the titanic PSP version sales and its bomb-like announcement of going to the Wii.
My bet : 2-3m in Japan, 1m+ US, 1m- on Others.

I said, get back to us when a main franchise Pokémon game gets released on a home console... It's never happened. You know, main franchise? The actual real Pokémon games? As in, Red/Blue/Yellow, Gold/Silver/Crystal, Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald, Diamond/Pearl/Platinum. All for GB, GBA and DS... No home console releases. Therefore it cannot be compared.
As for Monster Hunter ... Monster Hunter was released on PS2 before it was released on PSP. In other words, the franchise wasn't as big as it is now when these games were released. They can by no means be references as to why MH3 will not do as well as the PSP games. Atleast, not for sure. The comparisons really aren't valid.

Yeah, much like older Call of Duty games could totally give us a clue about Modern Warfare on HD systems.

@Esa - Pokemon on Wii was a crapped out update of the N64 Coliseum game with added online. No story-mode at all. Highly disappointing and pointless.
The problem with MH on PS2 is few people had online with PS2 and that's the series main selling feature. Also not a good comparison.
@routsounmanman - 2-3m in Japan is unrealistic compared to userbase of Wii vs PSP. 1-2m tops I'd say.
RE: Capcom marketing MH in the west - The western market isn't used to gaming together on PSPs, it's always solo or online vs but they are on Wii and home consoles in general (Star Wars Lego, SSBB -SSE, RE5 and such on HD consoles). Therefore I think Capcom will have more success in the West with a console version of MH than a handheld version.

Monster Hunter was a gradual process. It didn't go from 4-5 million to 15 million like Call of Duty did. (It went from 600k to 1.2 million)
Besides, Modern Warfare was a huge difference than previous Call of Dutys. And we both know Capcom isn't changing anything with MH3.
