He doesnt say that it isnt going to be big. He says that it isnt going to be as big as PSP entries. And he is absolutely right. Stop overreacting.

Stop overreacting? Sir, what else would I do on the internet?

the thing is, if capcom still hasn't figured out that if western people have to pay to play monthly for a game like this, they might as well play a mmo on a computer, then again, there are so many suckers paying for xboxlive so I guess that analogy doesn't really matter.

Two/Three years ago every analyst predicated the PS3 would be in first and the Wii would be in last. That was the most likely scenario of the time. The Nintendo Wii's success wasn't something most people expected. In fact, most everyone "predicting" the Wii's success at the time were the kooks who always bet against the majority for everything desperately hoping to win the virtual lottery with one lucky prediction among dozens (who also probably bet on the Gamecube as well). |
But the prediction was made after both Wii and PS3 launched though. He brought up good points in both Next-Gen Development Cost Woes? and The Future Is Multi-Platform Releases sections. However, he basically thought Nintendo is a fad and did not take the early success of Wii and the high price point of PS3 into consideration.
MikeB predicts that the PS3 will sell about 140 million units by the end of 2016 and triple the amount of 360s in the long run.
Frankly, I'm interested to see how the Wii version sells. Not because I think it'll sell badly or I think either theory is wrong, but because a lot of people have been clamoring for a main series console Pokemon game for a long time.
I've been a long time advocator that the reason they aren't making a main series Console Pokemon is for the simple fact that it would compete with their handheld games. Now I would love the game as much as anybody (or even more, a Pokemon MMO). But this upcoming Wii Monster Hunter might be a good test for another series to prove if a primarily handheld monster breeding game can make the leap to a console and not compete with its handheld series at the same time.
And if it does it successfully, Nintendo might just do the same.
Huh... I have a bet in my sig regards MH3. Wonder if BB still remembers about it. It was made probably more than a year ago. Just after platform announcement IIRC.
Personally I believe MH series is big only because of PSP. It will sell decent on Wii obviously but with casual approach of users it may generate huge sales in the long run. Few huge DS games showed to be a "moderate" success on the home console.
I expect
Week 1 - 420k
Week 2 - 170k
Week 3 - 90k
Week 4 - 55k
---------------------
735k ----> I win the bet
then legs show and it will keep around 30k for many weeks...
NB - I only read the thread title and OP. If I'm repeating, sorry. But this guy may have a valid point
“I agree that Monster Hunter is a massive title, it was the best-selling game in Japan last year. But with the Wii version you’re taking a huge title, which one-in-four PSP owners have, and you’re trying to transfer that userbase from handheld to home console. And so I feel there’s a relatively large risk that it won’t have the same level of success that it had on the PSP.”
It could well be that MH is simply a franchise that sells best on portables. I believe Animal Crossing is probably a good example, even though it sold millions on the Wii, it will not sell as well as the DS version. Only one way to find out, and that is to wait
"Monster Hunter" of the console version is minor.

However, in PSP, it sells in large numbers. A four-person play and all the Qwest of a PSP version are free. However, all the Qwest can't be played in the stand-alone of a console version. In order to carry out all Qwest and cooperation plays, you have to charge online. The reason which the PSP version has hit is there.
Therefore, MH3 does not exceed the number of MHP2G. MHP3 has a possibility of exceeding 3 million.
