Forums - Gaming - If download games were in stores, the prices would have fallen by now

One thing that blows my mind on both 360 and Wii (dont have ps3) is that old download games and content never drops in price.  The reason I have so many games, is because I buy one or two new every three months, and the rest used.  On download games you're just screwed, they will always cost the same.  Even if no one downloads them.

MS just put up a terrible sale on an old add on for GRAW 2 which highlights how on crack they are.  After 6 months to a year, they should all get slashed 50 percent.  Theyd probobly sell more too.

You cant sell back your used content to get anything back, so some kind of price drop schedule might be nice.

Cheap people might wait it out, but when somethign awesome drops, people will still buy it first day.  What are your thoughts?

Last year's game of the year turned out to be Silent Hill : Shattered Memories (online GOTY was COD 6).  This year's GOTY leader to me is Heavy Rain.

the reason that they drop the pirce sometimes. is because they want to get it off the shelf so they can get the new games out. at least that is for the wii.

It would be cool if they did more sales a la Steam, I guess. But since most of those games are already only $5 or $10 to begin wtih... if they're not worth that, then they're not worth playing at all.

I bought Penny Arcade episode 1 for half price last week.

They do have a section of reduced arcade games but not a lot in there.

I half way agree with you, more downloadable price drops would be nice. But look at some retail games, Gears 1 didn't drop in price until pretty much Gears 2 was released. Halo 3 took forever. If a game is selling well they won't seem to drop the price at all.

I just hate the inconsistency because if you want to wait and buy a reduced game you never know if its going to be one week or a year.

They don't have to worry about shelf space and retailers buying the game....

Steam sometimes has good deals, right? Do they permanently drop prices of their games after a while?

well...ive always thought some of the things(most) on live cost too much. and others are just fine...even staying the same price. they are worth it.

lots is 20 now

but its not so much about price as in, say i toss in an ancient game in my drive and want to dl soem new map for it, should it still cost whatever it cost, now that no one lays it and the retail game was 5 dollars?

its just inflated pricing in so many cases

marquee shit fine prices are ok, but add ons for rainbow 6 1?  pgr3?  etc

Plus, if the game is downloadable, there's only one place you're going to get it. No renting. No borrowing. No used copies. You've gotta pay what Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft tell you. It's not as bad with retail. I bought Beyond Good and Evil (Gamecube) and Jet Grind Radio (Dreamcast) for $9 each, a month after they came out!

Online retail could follow retail, selling games for cheap after a few months, but if they did, I would NEVER buy downloadable games when they are new. New console buyers would have a huge backlog of older, cheaper games too.
