Plus, if the game is downloadable, there's only one place you're going to get it. No renting. No borrowing. No used copies. You've gotta pay what Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft tell you. It's not as bad with retail. I bought Beyond Good and Evil (Gamecube) and Jet Grind Radio (Dreamcast) for $9 each, a month after they came out!
Online retail could follow retail, selling games for cheap after a few months, but if they did, I would NEVER buy downloadable games when they are new. New console buyers would have a huge backlog of older, cheaper games too.
