It now looks quite likely that this game will not flop (i.e. it will likely generate profit and probably sell enough for Sega's expectations).

Unless you think this was a big budget production of course. I don't think it was, given the simplicity of the graphics, short length and absence of any significant multiplayer.

Simplicity of the gfx is abit of an understatement. I am not sure but the PAL one that isn't 480p looks messy at 576i on my LCD.

I think not being 480p in PAL regions is partial responsible for the lack of sales in Europe.

Not to mention the game really is nothing that special if you look at it relistically after playing it once.

All I will say is that I have enjoyed House of the Dead Overkill far more (and that is on rails haha).

I guarantee you 95% of the people who would consider buying the game has either no idea what 480p is, or they can't tell the difference anyway.

Matt at Wii IGN complained that there was no 480P, and then continued to write that he didn't notice it. So if you don't notice it, why do you care???

well, anyway Sega said they were happy with MadWorld sales and it's one of the most successful title of ex-Clover ever

Well of course Sega are happy with the sales, it's on track to make close to 1 Million in sales eventually and hey, that's well over the 500k it needs to break even.

It still weeeeellllll underperformed this sites expectations.

Though 500K seems a bit much to break even.

I mean the game doesn't seem any more technically expensive then No More Heroes and is just as short.

So this site is Sega now? MadWorld performed to Sega's expectations. This means that the company that invested in the title have gotten back their investment so far. So umm.. I don't know how this site has anything to do with what you quoted.. I understand people made other predictions but peoples internet predictions don't dictate the success of any game.

As for 500k being too much, MadWorld did have voice acting which would have put its budget over No More Heroes budget but.. I overestimated for the inevitable.. I didn't want to have people saying that I twisted the facts to make it seem like it's doing better or anything like that.. It'll make more profit than what I stated (it'll sell at full price for longer than what I assumed in my calculations) and also it probably costed less than what I assumed therefore my working is sound in pretty much every way.

However IF it went over budget of if Sega drop the price next week or something then my working will still be accurate and once MadWorld hits 500k, we'll know for sure that it hasn't flopped.

The problem is not so much the lack of 480p (which the USA version doesn't have either I think), it's more the lack of full widescreen and 60 Hz mode.

I don't know how much it affects sales, but it's much more easily noticed than the lack of 480p.

Soriku had much higher expectatons if i remember correctly.

It kinda reminds you of someone claiming their team is going to go to win the championship of a sport... then claim they still did well by almost making the playoffs because they sucked the year before.

Factually true, but leave it to someone with more credibility on the subject to make the arguement.

Sega's comments were after only one week and wasn't exactly glowing. You think they are going to admit a flop in public after one week? It was under assumption of good legs. Not saying Sega isn't happy, but I think some people are reading too much into their initial comment.

That said, given the game's short length (a little shorter than NMH), I think 500K is an over estimate. Wouldn't suprise me if the budget was higher than NMH, but I doubt it needs 500k to break even.

I'm sorry you lost me here, what are you refering to with this statement?

MadWorld is at 160k, not 170k. According to the sales history thingy on it's page. The number you were looking at rounds up, very early too. O_o

It's annoying to see people defend a game when said game undersold their own expectations.

Yawn? That's not a lot. Plus I don't care, but that's my problem, I know :)

Currently playing: NSMB (Wii)

Waiting for: Super Mario Galaxy 2 (Wii), The Last Story (Wii), Golden Sun (DS), Portal 2 (Wii? or OSX), Metroid: Other M (Wii),

I'm not defending the game. I'm calling out everybody who is calling it a flop when quite clearly it's not. Honestly I've had it for 3 weeks and I'm up to the second level. It's not that compelling.. It's not the type of game I'd waste my time defending. However people need to learn and I feel that the more people that know the facts behind things, the better.
