Forums - Nintendo - Kotaku gives lots of details about The Conduit - and it needs polish, lots of polish

Because many wii owners unlike many Hd owners actually care about things other then graphics.

Things.. but... what are those? What so special offers this game.  It isn't special in any way. It looks like oldschool generic shooter. What offers multi? How big it actually is? Classes? Split screen maybe?

You treat it like Killzone2/Halo 3 equivalent while it's just another low budget cash in.

Seems like legitimate concerns and praises. Aside from the it's on Wii. If you truly play a well controlled shooter on Wii, I doubt "it's not dual analog" will ever pop into your mind haha.

Most games do need polish and never get them by release so that's really not too much of a concern for me. The hold to crouch thing just depends. I mean it seems like a silly gripe but I haven't played it for context. Maybe an option for both would be nice though.

I also as well see the "all seeing eye" as quite the gimmick but most shooters have some kind of gimmick. It just depends if the gimmick works for it. Seems that it's used heavily in the story and even multiplayer so I hope it does work for the game.

But most of the gripes seem to be your usual shooter gripe considering that's what the Conduit is. I'm glad they bring it up for the game but I do wish they would bring it up for every shooter that has similar issues. Media sites like to pick and choose which ones they decide to bring this list up on and one's they don't. No I won't get over that because I see it as unjust.

But from the looks of it it seems that Conduit will be at least a good shooter and if the other things come into place it might even be an above average one. Not a bad attempt on HVS's first big game.

It'll be the best FPS that Wii has to offer. It's budget is estimated to be around $10 Million which I wouldn't say is low budget for a Wii game.. People are excited because it'll have perfect controls, FULLY customisable so you can play it anyway you like! Wanna shoot with the + button? You can do that! Want it to play like a keyboard and mouse with absolutly no bounding box? Go ahead!

It's also the most fleshed out online game for Wii with 12 player competitive multiplayer (previous best was 8), Wii Speak functionality unlike every other game except Animal Crossing, it's going to be a hard game so teh hardcorezz should be happy, story seems to be one that will keep you wanting to play and it's on my console so now I can play the top notch FPS that I've been waiting for since I bought the Wii with all my friends who also own the Wii.

I'm guessing that's why people are looking forward to it.. That's why I'm looking forward to it!

Sorry no.  Metal of Honour: Heroes 2 holds the record with 32 player online.

Medal of Honour had no Online in Australia so it doesn't count for me :P

Some quick thoughts

- The Conduit looks to be pretty bare-bones. There is nothing about this game that allows it to stand on its own. Yes, the controls may indeed be god's gift to video games, but what about the game itself? Art direction, level design, enemy AI, Online MP, Local MP , LAN MP, really just about everything about this game that could be good is just about as rudimentary as it gets.

- The WiiSpeak function where only players in the vicinity are heard is a bad idea, and the conduit will get panned for this come review time, especially because of how HVS has emphasized the online aspect. I'd like to know if this is an inherent WiiSpeak limitation or if HVS chose to do it this way.

- The ASE. What is the purpose of this thing? By the sounds of it there is little to no thought involved in solving the puzzles. How is this anything other than a cheap gimmick in single player?

Demon's Souls Official Thread  | Currently playing: Left 4 Dead 2, LittleBigPlanet 2, Magicka

This quote killed the impressions for me:
"The biggest problem I foresee for The Conduit comes from shooter fans that are too used to games on PS3 and 360. It takes a lot of work to unlearn the dual analog stick system of moving and shooting; I could see gamers getting frustrated and mistaking The Conduit's controls as the source of their learning curve woes."

It's as if they already have a bias before even sitting down to play the game. They also make their control criticism a lot less substantial by basically admitting that they aren't very well-versed with a Wiimote.

I doubt it will be better than CoD WaW but I have no idea how many corners they have cut to port it to Wii. Maybe there left   less than I suppose. Personally I see nothing exciting about FULLY costumisable controls. In the end there is always one core system with minor changes... Things you've mentioned in second paragraph shows how outdated Wii online is but you've pointed also one really good reason for all this hype. Ppl tend to praise games for own system. This is it. This game would perish on any system but the Wii.

Exactly, I bought the Wii for the controls. If I had bought the PS3 and The Conduit was released on it then I'd have laughed at it and thrown it back into the bargain bin. It was designed for Wii and that's what it should be looked at as.

Unlike many other people too. I can actually have fun with a last gen shooter (red faction 2, timesplitters, even 007 agent under fire). So the Conduit is going to be a blast for me mostly because of the controls. The feel of actually being more immersed into the game then using dual analog. I also think the art design and all that is not terrible or even bad; it's good but maybe not great.
