Forums - Sales - Microoft Burns $50 million dollar hole in their wallet

Megadude said:
If sales of the DLC had been phenomenal then trust me you would know an exact number. The top brass at MS would have it tattooed on their forehead. No doubt the sales for the content were lackluster and Pacher's guestimate is generous. 1 million sold MAYBE. What really happened is:

1. The content came out too late, GTA4 was the event of 2008, not 2009.
2. A few episodes were not enough to convince games to drop the 20 bones.

Now you look at this and the trash Fallout 3 DLC and realise that it takes a lot of time and money to make a quality game and 50 million dollars would have been better spent on new IP's. This DLC cost more then Gears of War and Uncharted combined. And I think it's the main reason that 360's first party lineup is weak as hell this year.

Actually, they have never released exact numbers on any Live content sales.  Not to my knowledge at least.  You could prove me wrong though.

Who knows if GTA 4 would've sold WORSE on the 360 without the promise of dlc. Too many variables to take this article at face value.

What a stupid fucking article.

Yup...another dumb thread by the b_u_l_l_s_h_i_t squad.

Playing: Borderlands(great co-op,HUGE amount of content),Too Human(better late than never lol),Saints Row 3(Penetrator ftw),Minecraft 360,Harry Potter Lego.

Patiently waiting for:  Tomb Raider, Borderlands 2

The article is an absolute and complete EPIC FREAKING FAILURE! One million download was already, and 2 million was expected by EOY...that equates to $40 million...and it cost $25 million. To add to that, M$ and Rockstar could turn out a retail GTA with L&D in the fall, to coincide with the launch of the additional DLC...boosting sales for the game. So, trying to spin a million download of a $20 DLC in a month as negative is just flat out stupid!

BTW...this and the koller whining article just shows how sony and it's lackeys are getting mighty worried at the current state of affairs...

Well, they unloaded tons of money in vain again since GTA4 sold roughly the same on PS3 as on 360 despite the bigger install base.

MS didn't recoup even half of their 50 million $ (neither did they recoup the Xbox 1 losses by the way), so yeah that was another failure after Zune, Vista, the yahoo bid, internet ads vs google and Internet Explorer + Office losing market shares. They're on a roll right now.

When your competitor sells the same number of consoles as you do but with a twice as expansive console, something is wrong.

Second, DLC exclusivity and GTA4 did nothing to increase the Xbox 360’s lead over the PS3.

We don't know that. GTA IV sold better on the 360, it may have been because of the DLC exclusivity.

I think the promise of DLC sold more than a few 360 copies of the game, particularly in North America.

I don't really think they see it that way ;)
