PRE-PURCHASE THE ORANGE BOX NOW, PLAY TEAM FORTRESS 2 BETA NEXT WEEK

Pre-Purchasers Also Receive Peggle Extreme!

September 11, 2007 -The Orange Box-featuring Half-Life 2: Episode Two, Team Fortress 2, and Portal, as well as the complete Half-Life 2 experience to date-is now available for pre-purchase via Steam, a leading online platform for the distribution of PC games. Those who pre-purchase the PC edition via Steam before October 10th will save 10% off the $49.95 regular price and get exclusive access to the Team Fortress 2 beta.

The Orange Box, penned by IGN as ".the package which could legitimately be called the deal of the century," features three highly-awaited new games by Valve: Half-Life® 2: Episode Two, the second installment in the Half-Life 2 episodic trilogy; Team Fortress® 2, the sequel to the game that put class-based, multiplayer team warfare on the map; and Portal, the game that blends puzzles, first person action, and adventure gaming to produce an experience like no other.

To bring gamers up to date with the Half-Life 2 universe, The Orange Box also includes Half-Life 2, the best-selling and highest-rated action game series of all time, and the episodic debut Half-Life® 2: Episode One. Customers who already own these titles will have the ability to conveniently "gift" them to a friend upon official release of The Orange Box.

Starting September 17th, those who pre-purchase The Orange Box via Steam can download and activate the beta release of Team Fortress 2 (TF2). This year's most anticipated online action game, TF2 delivers new game types, a signature art style powered by Valve's next generation animation technology, persistent player statistics, and more.

As a special bonus, those who pre-purchase The Orange Box via Steam will also receive a copy of Peggle Extreme. PopCap and Valve have teamed up to create a special edition of the game cited by MSNBC.com as one of the "Top 5 Most Addicting Games of All Time." This first ever collaboration is themed around content from Half-Life 2: Episode Two, Team Fortress 2 and Portal which will positively result in Extreme Fever!

Available at retail on October 10th in North America and October 12th in the rest of the world, retail copies of The Orange Box will be offered for an estimated price of $49.95 on the PC and $59.95 on the Xbox® 360 console systems. The 10% pre-purchase discount also applies to these versions at participating retail outlets.

I don't need HL2 and HL2: Ep 1 again, and I don't get why I need to re-buy them...but $45 for HL2: Ep2, TF2, and Portal is still an amazing deal, so frankly don't give a damn. Someone here can have my HL2 and HL2: EP1 one for free, just let me know.

Playing TF2 a good month before its release? Win!

EDIT:

The Engineer video for TF2 is up. I have no sound here at work...but I'm sure this video is funny if it's anything like the Heavy Weapons Guy and the Soldier.

Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

I'd buy it right now, if my preference wasn't to have a hard copy of all of my games....

This is one of the few games that I'm really looking forward to this fall.

edit:  I'll just wait.  I still have HL2:DM and FEAR for whenever I need a PC shooter fix.

You can burn to discs using Steam if I remember correctly.

Or you can wait til release and pay full price plus sales tax, but whatever.

And before anybody whines that you have to rebuy HL2 and HL2: Ep 1 if you already own them...this entire package for $50 (or $45 if you preorder) is an excellent package. Portal would cost $20 separate. TF2 would cost $30 separate. HL2: Ep 2 would cost $30 separate.

So yeah, if you want to wait until the games come out to buy the 3 new games separately you can...but then you'd be spending $80. Valve is giving you these 3 new games for $45 (and that little downloadable game), plus the 2 previous games, which you can very graciously give to friends and spread the word about one of the best FPSs ever made.

I'll definitely be preording this tonight. I love TFC and I'm sure TF2 will be just as fun.

I like Team Fortress Classic. Engineers ftw!

Thanks Obiwan, I didn't know steam had a backup utility built into it.  I just might buy it now.

I actually didn't play TFC...not for more than an hour or two quite some time ago. Everyone was already an ace at the game...

I don't know why I never bought the game...when TF2 was announced, I was going to play it to get the hang out it in time, but I'm sure TF2 will be different enough that hopefully I can jump in and do ok.

I just need to get used to the concept of legitimate rocket jumping haha.

That's why you just become a heav, find a nice little corner or hiding spot, and laugh at the snipers.  Think people screaming AWP whole on CS but worse and more fun.
