Forums - Nintendo - Are Wii sales starting to fall off in Americas and Others as well as Japan?

Running the math for Japan, I get 400,000 to 500,000 Wiis as the likely figure for the quarter given that we don't know when Wii Sports Resort will launch exactly in June. For Japan, there were 648k Wiis sold in Q2 2008 (MK Wii), and 883k Wiis in Q2 2007 (Super Paper Mario). A ~200k drop from the previous quarter seems fairly reasonable to me given the low sales and occasional spikes (WSR, GW) that will punctuate the quarter. Punch Out/ EA Sports Active in May, and a new Guitar Hero/Conduit/Tiger Woods/Motion + in June should keep sales in the Americas at maybe ~650k-750k April (down Y.O.Y), ~850k-1000k May (up Y.O.Y despite Wii Fit) and ~750k-850k (up Y.O.Y. but 'only' 150k/week). I'm not sure how Others will react, although it will probably be flattish but Japan and the Americas should reach 2.75m-3.15m Wiis in Q2, which combined with a stronger Q1 means Wii will continue to be up year over year through June.

I agree with the general thinking except for two things :

- Tax Refund, maybe my expectations are wrong but I would think most of the people that get a refund filed early and the people filing late are actually the one owing extra taxes ( that was my case lol).
- I don't think Wii NA sales will be as high in May. So far Nintendo software has been the only one to show it could impact hardware sales, I'm not sure those third party titles will actually boost hardware sales that much ( The Conduit might do well but will it sell Wiis ? That is very doubtfull).

PS3-Xbox360 gap : 1.5 millions and going up in PS3 favor !

PS3-Wii gap : 20 millions and going down !

I filed 2 days ago =P, late but not overdue, takes like 10 minutes online these days lol. May will most likely be lower, unless people are somehow crazy about punch out ^^;;;.

We can start tracking Q2 2009 vs Q2 2008 and see who is closer to the truth :P

So far after 2 weeks in Q2 2009,
Wii sales are down 175k.

537 636 vs 712 537.

Down 25%.

Still to early to tell. It's numbers have been down recently, but no big games for any console has been released in a couple of weeks. Monster Hunter is sure to be a big game for one and Wii Sports Resort for another.

My most anticipated games:  Whatever Hideo Kojima is going to do next, Final Fantasy XIII, Final Fantasy Versus XIII, Gran Turismo 5, Alan Wake, Wii Sports Resort.  Cave Story Wiiware.

Yeah but Wii Sport Resorts will have almost no impact on Q2 sales.

However, Wii could be sig. higher in Q3 than last year.

Not denying that ;)

My whole argument in this thread was about Q2 2008 vs Q2 2009
