Of course the success of the PS3 is directly related to the PS2/PS1, and the PS4 will be successful because of the PS3.  The third party exclusives were never Sony's to begin with, the only reason they were "exclusive" was because the PS2 had a dominant market position.  What do you think MS sacrificed to increase their marketshare marginally?  They closed game studios, and really haven't been able to buy any major exclusives.  The money that they could have spent on the 2009 game library funded the price cut.

If you want to talk about losses, let's talk about the 20 billion dollars the EDD has lost since its inception in 2005.  That doesn't even take into account the 9 billion the original Xbox loss.  MS has lost 30 billion dollars on a product that can barely outsell a competitor that is twice the price.

Wow you say so much without any evidence to back it up, from the news I heard on the internet Microsoft lost 6 billion on the origional xbox, and have lost 1 billion on xbox 360 due to RROD,  thats 7 billion not the 30 billion you claim, I will even say 8 billion for making the 360 and marketing, but 30 billion, LOL.

To be fair, the EDD has only lost 19.422 billion since 2005.  That plus your 6 billion on the original Xbox puts MS losses at 25.422 billion for the console.  I see your point, that's a lot better.

By the way, my evidence can be found here -> http://www.microsoft.com/msft/earnings/default.mspx

I am not going to read all of that, give me the specific links to the pages were they lost profit every quarter since 2005 and then I will add it up.

The things I mentioned was on the internet people should remember the shortages after holiday 2007, when microsoft came out and said they had shortages,

and people should remember the recent news of microsoft replenishing hardware in Japan back in september,

so please I ain't going to work that hard just to prove my point to a person that still don't even believe the company that makes the system.

someone else might but not me.

If you can't prove a point, then don't make one.

You really are shooting yourself in the foot with this argument. Be glad that Zucas, Khuutra, or Naz isn't here to argue with you. I'm nice.

Again, you are not entitled whatever the hell you'd like as truth. Because what are you doing isn't true at all.

The reason why I am not goint to find the links is because Max won't even believe the company, so what is the point.

Look, the only case where I can remember the 360 in shortage was in Japan when Tales launched. It was hard to find and we have pictures documenting it.

Whenever they claimed the same in America before GTA launched (and was being outsold by PS3) they claimed the same. Those were refuted because no major retailer was out online and they were easily found in stores.

it was just the pro model and sales never increased when the supposed shortages were over. so obviously the shortages never hindered sales

No, every model was hard to find in Japan at that time. The Elite just launched there so that was already hard to find.

if you are just gonna turn a blind eye everytime evidence is presented you should stop arguing

I am talking about in January when they were having shortages right after the holiday season.

They probably had shortages up to march right before GTA 4 launch as well, its funny how it is the month of march ps3 closed the gap, again like I said 360 had shortages same time last year after the holiday season, and like I said before it's not a stretch of the imagination that they are now running low, because from september 2008 to February 2009 microsoft sold 8 million consoles, thats 8 million consoles in 6 months, its not unbelievable to me that they are now running low, because it happened last year and they are selling more consoles than last year.

And I don't think it was proven true that microsoft was not telling the truth I think it was gamers saying that and showing one or two retailers don't mean anything like I said I had shortages in my area around that time.

I will post again so you can read it.

Well first of all I am not trolling, my response is directly related to this thread,

second no one here said selling 50K more after 31 days being half priced in it's strongest territory is a good thing, all I have said is the 360 still outsold the PS3.

thirdly I remember 360 having shortages after holiday 2007 in america, and Microsoft came out and said it, but as usual people claimed bull, and yet one of my friends was shopping around for a 360 at that time here in new york city and all he could find were ARCADES, I then called my local gamestop here in queens, new york city and they said they were none left and we had to wait for the next shipment.

After tales of vesperia and infinite undiscovery came out 360 sales got a boost then the 360 started having shortages in Japan, microsoft once again came out and said they were having shortages in Japan, people again claimed bull, 360 sales took a huge dip, retailers in Japan were also reported to have low 360 numbers people still claimed bull, then some people started celebrating the low sales of the 360 for that week, microsoft said they were sending another batch to Japan I knew microsoft was happy to make that anouncement, the next week sales shot up again, even more so because of the price cut.

I believe microsoft stopped making anouncements for shortages because even if they do people will claim bull, 360 sales dropped to 4000 units 2 weeks ago I thought it was hardware shortages as soon as I saw it, some people once again started celebrating, hoping 360 sales would stay that way, this past week sales practically doubled, I believe 360 sold 7500 last week.

The past is the reason why I believe 360 is having shortages, Microsoft sold 8 million 360s worldwide between the month of september 2008 and february 2009, due to the price cut, thats 8 million consoles in 6 months, I am thinking maybe just maybe they are having shortages now in the month of march, but hey call me a crazy fanboy, whatever.

Of course it isn't.  But he seems to believe everything that he reads on the Internet, so it was quite easy to slip it by him. Actual losses of the EDD are in the 3.5 billion range :).

Thanks for the input, Jeff.
