Anyone know where else BESIDES the ONE location mentioned where Riddick is down to $40? Best Buy has it at $60. Gamestop has it at $60. Toys R Us has it at $60. Same with Walmart.

I am noticing a trend. This trend is someone sees something ONE place and assumes that it is a trend. Now Riddick is made out to be an epic failure, due to a price cut at ONE place.

Come on, the combined budget of those games doesn`t even come close to MadWorld. Leave the HD consoles alone.
Let`s talk about how Zack & Wiki, No More Heroes, Boom Blox all failed to break the (very realistic) 1M barrier.

Well at least Riddick and Wheelman had tough competition.  MadWorld had the field pretty much completely to itself and still flopped.  As for cost, I've seen a lot more advertising for MadWorld than I ever did for Wheelman or Riddick, and how much would Riddick really cost considering it's basically an upgrade of an already great looking Xbox game with a few additional levels.

*Tries to remember if VG Chartz' logo changed for Riddick or other gaming websites having significant amounts of advertising for it.  Also tries to remember if local videogame stores had advertising for Riddick like they did for MadWorld.  Hmm...*

Why would we talk about random new IP mini-successes on the Wii in this thread? You could go start a thread about how little games like NMH and Braid did really well... in a different thread. I think this one is about big licensed IP titles flopping on the HD consoles though.

I was just being sarcastic. There were at least 243 threads about Madworld being a failure on its first week of sales. People also seem to have unrealistic expectations for artsy, low budget or new IPs on the Wii. The (semi) HD consoles have a respectable collection of flops and no one make a big deal of it.

1) Old IPs - Silent Hill, Golden Axe, Star Ocean, Tales (of Vesperia), Alone in the Dark, Shadowrun

2) New IPs - Conan, Lair, Haze, Infinite Undiscovery, Last Remnant, Valkyria Chronicles, Stranglehold, Fracture, Jericho, Folklore

3) Low Budget games - Bullet Witch, X-Blades, Ninja Blade, Operation Darkness, Onechanbara

There are more, these are the one I remember. Everyone is losing money on HD development (save for 4 or 5 companies with diversified investments) and all we can talk is about Z&W disappointing sales or how NMH and Madworld would do 1M + on the Xbox360 alone.

The (semi compared to the wii  of course) HD consoles have a respectable collection of flops and no one make a big deal of it.

I think the real issue was Madworld being madly hyped by not just a few, but every wii fan, and that was what made it really bad. While the HD consoles had had a really stuffed past couple of years, so nobody notices the # of flops. The wii has nintendo games that sell well, and the occasinal party game (carnival games, games party, games party 2, deca sports, mario party, sports party, raving rabbids tv party.. and the list goes on.) So to see a game that differs from that formula, and being very hyped, it was naturally disapointing seeing the sales. Although if the legs of these games are anything to go by, madworld will break 1 mill.

Especially the games I have bolded, really bad examples. In fact, I would say over half of them had anti-hype, were just too niche or bad. Fracture was like all 3 of those :P And TLR sold decently, I think. Considering it's a timed xbox 360 exclusive, and shall at least make another 300k on the ps3 making it a success.

And that's the only thing I need is *this*. I don't need this or this. Just this PS4... And this gaming PC. - The PS4 and the Gaming PC and that's all I need... And this Xbox 360. - The PS4, the Gaming PC, and the Xbox 360, and that's all I need... And these PS3's. - The PS4, and these PS3's, and the Gaming PC, and the Xbox 360... And this Nintendo DS. - The PS4, this Xbox 360, and the Gaming PC, and the PS3's, and that's all *I* need. And that's *all* I need too. I don't need one other thing, not one... I need this. - The Gaming PC and PS4, and Xbox 360, and thePS3's . Well what are you looking at? What do you think I'm some kind of a jerk or something! - And this. That's all I need.

This post is almost as cool as Guile's hair!

I kid. Yeah It's two games on one disc, a remake of the original and a new game following what happended after the first game. It also has multiplayer though I don't know how good the MP is.

It's just that simple.

I expected poor sales... No one talked about them at all...

4 ≈ One

Weelman & Riddick are really bad games..

Seeing more advertizements doesn't (necessarily) mean that more money was spent on marketing, just that you may watch more of the television that defines a particular demographic that is being targeted by the company. Personally, I saw a few advertizements for MadWorld on a small national network in off-peak hours in a Startrek rerun while I am constantly bombarded with wheelman and Riddick commercials if I watch Spike at primetime ... While Spike may not be a very big network, it is much larger than the network I saw the MadWorld commercials on (Space), its primetime slot would certainly be more expensive than the off-peak timeslot I saw MadWorld on, and the quantity of advertizements is far greater for Wheelman and Riddick.
