21 in US. but i think drinking should be banned, i know your going to come and attack me, but how much violence can be avoided if it was just banned.

Actually that increases violence much worse. Ever hear of the prohibition? Ever realize that the Mafia was creadted BECAUSE of prohibition?

Drinking is only dangerous when idiots who don't kwno how to drink drink. The way to avoid this is to learn from a young age.

Which is also why banning marijuana is so damn stupid.

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Thompson

and when has prohibition ever worked?

I'm, not sure if this has been brought up as I havn't read the whole thread and you also may all be working from a different angle thus making this invalid but do you all know that the legal drinking age (at least in the UK) is 5 years old?

1. What is the legal drinking age in your country?

2. Do you think it should be changed, up or down?

1. 18 (UK)

2. I think non-spirit based alcohol drinks should be lowered to 16 in pubs, clubs etc, but not in off licenses or shops. This would encourage 16 and 17 year olds to drink low percentage alcohol in a safe environment. Instead of drinking in the streets, which causes vandalism and other crimes.

I think lowering the age to 16 in pubs would reduce street crime by teenagers. It will also teach teenagers to drink responcibly. It would also help keep pubs from closing down (20 pubs close down every day in the UK). Also, introducing alcohol at an earlier age reduces the likelyhood of that person devloping into an alcoholic.

I'm sure someone must have mentioned this already but the legal drinking age in the UK is NOT 18.

You can legally drink age 5 (FIVE), it's at the bar you have to be 18 to drink or buy a drink.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Legal_drinking_age

"It is only illegal for those aged 5-17 to drink alcohol on licensed premises (e.g. a pub or restaurant); they may legally drink alcohol elsewhere above the age of 5,
16 (liqueur chocolates)"

A little like cigarettes in the UK, you can smoke them at any age, you just can't BUY them until you are 18.

Of course any parent allowing their child to drink or smoke at a very young age will probably be in trouble and quite honestly shouldn't be a parent in the first place!

I could agree with you on the banning and I'm not sure some of these middle eastern countries have it all that wrong when they lop of a few limbs or flog people for drinking.

The number of worthless alcoholics in the UK is shameful and not only are they worthless to themslves but also to their children, other family members and society.

And I say that with no sarcasm at all, I mean it wholeheartedly.
