Forums - Gaming - Xbox 720 will beat PS4 and Wii 2 in race to be released first

Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo all have consoles currently on the market and all are likely to produce a new on and bring it to market in the next few years. But which company will blink first? We recently ran a poll asking which of the Xbox 720, PS4, and the Wii 2 will launch first. The results are below.

This generation of games consoles is my favorite for a good few years. I’m not quite sure why that is - the striking differences between the three home consoles, the range and diversity of games, the online capabilities of gaming being truly realized at last. But whatever it is, I’m really enjoying it. However, I’m also keeping one eye on the future and what it yet to come.

As we all enjoy our current-gen consoles, the PS3, Xbox 360, and Wii, there’s more going on behind the scenes than we may imagine. All three of the major games console manufacturers will be making plans for the next-gen, whether they choose to make them public or not. The question now isn’t if, but when?

We asked: Which next-gen console will launch first?

Microsoft Xbox 720 - 474 - 42% of all votes
The Chuck Norris - 287 - 25% of all votes
Nintendo Wii 2 - 170 - 15% of all votes
Playstation 4 - 166 - 15% of all votes
Other - 33 - 3% of all votes

Total Votes: 1130 - Started: March 14, 2009, Ended: April 11, 2009.

As you can see, the Xbox 720 won by a huge margin. Not only did it manage to secure 42 percent of the vote, the next 25 percent was taken by a fictional console I invented for the purposes of the poll. If the Chuck Norris were to be made it would obviously be awesome but I fear it’ll remain a distant hope in our hearts. Unless Google decides it wants a piece of the video games market. And teams up with Chuck. Which is unlikely.

In essence, the Wii 2 and Playstation 4 are, according to our readers, rank outsiders in term of being the next console to launch. While the Xbox 360 is doing well at the moment, Microsoft has a reputation for being first out of the block. Meanwhile, Sony seems set on a long-term life for the PS3 and the Wii is still (unfortunately) far too popular for Nintendo to consider rushing a successor out to market.

So, Xbox 720 released in 2011? Earlier? Later? let us know what you think. And don’t forget to vote in our new poll looking at which home console has the best online service.

The Chuck Norris? are you serious? wtf

Well didn't MS say they would like to be first again?

Makes sense. They were first this-gen. MS should be first again.

This is stupid. How can you tell this by having a poll? It's like asking "What is the cure for cancer" in a poll, the options are:

Urine: 53%

Garlic: 22%

Your mom: 20%

Pedobear: 5%

And then proclaiming that Urine IS the cure for cancer.

It makes the most sense for Microsoft to be first.. The 360 will hit it's peak this year and the Wii is way to popular right now with the PS3 having much more life left it it due to the price drop potential and the fact that Sony need to keep it alive for long enough to make a good amount of money back on what they've lost so far..

What we know for certain is that there is absolutely no way the next Xbox will be called Xbox 720 since the number 720 would be associated with 720p while the next Xbox will have at least 1080p as standard.

Microsoft are of course likely to try and get their console out first as they have seen how much of an advantage it gives.

I think that MS will be the first to put out a completely new console, followed by Nintendo, and last will be Sony. Sony has already made comments in the past about the PS3 having a longer life cycle than the traditional 5 years.

However, I think there is a very real chance that Nintendo will offer a Wii upgrade (like they have done with the DS). I am not saying it will happen, or even that it is likely to happen, but it definitely can happen. Of course, if Wii sales maintain the current rate, there is no need to do anything until they start to drop off.

In the absence of evidence to the contrary, always assume you have the upper hand.

NNID = RangerOne

Switch = SW-2393-3671-6907

This fits with my line of thinking. October 2011 for new Xbox, November 2011 for Nintendo 6, April 2012 for PS4

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.
