Forums - Nintendo - The Conduit preview: Technically marvellous but it's not really much fun

Wow... When anyone hates on a Wii game, they must simply be a hater. God forbid someone have a opinion that doesn't agree with public opinion...

It does look tired and cliched. That's essentially what I've said since the beginning. A done-to-death run-of-the-mill shooter, with technically proficient graphics for the Wii. And that's what the consensus really is... No one is talking about excellent gameplay or what it does new, but how good the game looks.

@ Zucas

He didn't attack this game, he said it was cliched and uninspired. Please re-read the OP. He praises gun variety, competent multiplayer, Wii Speak support, controls, and graphics. But because he doesn't ride the cock of this game like it's the best ever, he's part of a hypocritical group of people. Get the fuck out of here with that shit.

This preview has to be completely wrong.

Up until now I heard that this was going to be the greatest shooter of all time.

Who's been saying that?  I will posit that the Wii owners who are excited for this game are more excited that it's the first of it's kind, not the best (at least, that's how it is for me):  A Wii exclusive built around the strengths of the console, specifically, the controls, and the graphical focus implies that High Voltage, as a 3rd party, is actually trying.  That's not something that can be said about many a 3rd party Wii game.

It's not the first shooter on the Wii that a third party actually tried.  I'm sick of hearing this.  There was a lot of effort put into Red Steel regardless of what several people might say.

It didn't get very good reviews, and I've always heard it was a glitchy mess.  And, as Savior noted, that was a launch title years ago.  There really hasn't been anything in between.

To lavish praise upon this title, the assumption of a common plateau between player and game must be made.  I won't open my unworthy mouth.

What do the reviews of the Conduit say?  Nothing.  It hasn't been released yet.

What makes you think that it will be good at all?  Is it High Voltage's awesome track record?

Red Steel was hyped up similarly and this is why I used this comparison.  It also was three years ago, and my point was that the Conduit is not the first shooter that has had effort put into it like you stated.

I hope that the Conduit's a good game, but it looks cliched and boring to me.

IMO, any shooter on the Wii will 'automatically' be more fun than on its HD cousins due to the controls. Given that they are fixing the technical Wii issues, focusing on the controls - I expect this to be a LOT of fun.

Let the fear mongering begin - the media couldn't possibly let the Wii become the FPS console of choice ;)

Wow. Are you serious?

Depends how you (personally) define 'fun' - but hell yeah.

I *cannot* play Halo3. I *cannot* play Killzone. I *cannot* play Resistance. I *cannot* play GoWI/II.

The Wiimote has spoilt me (again, this is ME personally) and I just can't go back. Playing a FPS on those other consoles just feels... wierd, foreign... wrong.

I used to play Quake/CounterStrike/Doom (etc) - and when I moved from PC to console, was when I stopped playing FPS titles.

RE4 (Wii) is awesome - its the benchmark for me (yes, I know its not a 'real' FPS...). I loved Metroid 3 - except for the fact that it *wasn't* Metroid at all (my main critisicm of it) - and it was way too easy ;).

Content & graphics are very much secondary to controls IMO.

Red Steel has its moments of awesomeness - pity the controls were so loose. Very much looking forward to RS2, almost certain to be revealed at E3 - for a Xmas release.

I shudder to think how much better these games could get with Motion+ as well.

I've said it before, but here it is again. If Haze was on Wii it'd be the best FPS for Wii (maybe 2nd after CoDWaW) and Wii owners would be happy to have it. Myself included.

I think this preview may be slightly biased but essentially true. HVS may be pushing the Wii but they are not close to pushing the envelope as far as FPS go. Conduit looks like pretty standard fair for that genre and I've no expectations of it being as good as 'Halo' or 'Killzone' but I do want one run & gun FPS for Wii, especially one that's not WWII and right now, this is the only game in town and I'm definately getting it and going to have a lot of fun with it.

Once Red Steel 2 comes out Conduit will likely be forgotten.

1. Previewer: This Wii game isn't as good as other games in this genre, because you have to push the X button six times to make the player blink.

2.HD Fanboys: Hah, told you Wii owners this game wasn't going to be good.

3. Wii Fanboys: But the Wii doesn't even have an X button.......

4. HD Fanboys: Stop making excuses, you wii owners just can't handle it when your games don't measure up.

5. Wii Fanboys: Well, Wii is just better and more fun anyway, we don't need flashy graphics and metacritic sucks balls.......so there!

6. Generic VGchartz user: How about we wait for a decent preview or..(ignored)

I mentioned the reviews of Red Steel to counter your claim that effort was exerted on the creation of the game.  So, yes, the reviews say nothing about The Conduit's efforts yet.

What I've seen so far looks promising, despite HV mediocre creations in the past (not that it looks like they were trying much with other games, though); not that it looks like it will be earth-shattering, just that, finally, I may get a good shooter on the Wii (shooters after that will have to differentiate themselves, though).

And in those three years after the questionably effort-exerted Red Steel, 3rd parties have all but forgotten about the Wii, at least in this area.  And it had "launch title" as it's hype more than anything else.  So I do not see why I shouldn't be at least somewhat excited about this game.

And, as many others on here say, most FPS are cliched and boring.  But the Wiimote will (at least for the first efforts) erase those problems.

@ appolose

Alright, alright, alright.

No effort was put toward Red Steel. You know this even though you never even played the game and the reviews told you this.

Also, you are right to get excited about a FPS that's being made by the developers of Go Diego Go! and that 50 Cent game.

I will let you get the last word now if you want.

You win?

I think that because of what others have said, not just you.  Why should I take your word for it?

I notice you ignored what I said made me excited about the game despite their track record.

And you want to quit already? I've only posted twice :P

For the record I loved Red Steel myself. Except for the sword fighting which proved progressively more disappointing and frustrating as the game went on. As far as the FPS elements, they worked fine (although it's been bettered many times over now) and it's still the best FPS with split-screen out on Wii (the only other being QoS which WAS a glitchy mess as far as single-player is concerned). Got a lot of play time out of RS and looking forward to RS2
