Forums - Sales - What's with the talk of the XBox 360 "almost getting crushed by Sony"?

Well, looking at the grand scheme of things, it isn't hard to see why someone would say that.

Looking at the recent adjustments made, between the weeks of February 28th and April 4th, 360 sold a grand total of 4,802 console above the PS3 worldwide. Taking into account that the 360 is at least half the price of the PS3 in every region (less than half in Europe) those are some pretty surprising numbers.

What is probably getting Sony fanboys excited about this is the fact that this is the 360's time to shine and really solidify their lead over PS3 for the rest of the generation. Since its price drop in September, 360 has been enjoying the highest price difference with the PS3 it will have all generation. Microsoft really needs to take advantage of this period since when the PS3 inevitably drops in price later this year, 360 will most likely never outsell the PS3 at the pace it has, and possibly rarely ever again at all.

Pretty much the mentality of the PS3 fanboy seeing the recently adjusted numbers is: "If the 360 can only barely outsell the PS3 when it is at least half the price and has at least a $200 difference between it and the 360, how is it going to hold up when the difference drops to $150 or possibly even $100 later this year and the years left to come this generation?"

Exactly what I wanted to say :)

Its because the 360 is only just outselling the far, far, far more expensive ps3 WW

I hope my 360 doesn't RRoD

eventually PS3 will Crushed 360 but not soon. Both consoles are great but the more Sony show off its exclusives the more I like them.

Heavy Rain
Final Fantasy VS
God Of War
RPG exclusives
JRPG multiplats (usually better on PS3)

What multiplattform JRPG has been better on PS3? As far as I know 99 times of 100 the 360 version of a multiplatform game turns out to have superior graphics in one way or the other. Mostly the diff. is more or less untracable for a normal player but still is.

So please tell us what multiplattform game on both has been better on PS3?

Looking at Enchanted Arms we have no online + lowe fps + fewer effects + worse eviroment on ps3

Granted that the 360 numbers are not great you still have to concider the finanscial numbers. The PS3 would be great at that price point compared to 360 i the double price meant double the revenue for Sony but since that's far from the case it wonät matter how close the consoles are, the margins is what counts in the end.

Predictions for 2009:

360: 39-42 PS3: 31-34 Wii: 67-70

Future projection

Wii will hit 100 million before christmas 2010 (made december 2008)

NDS Family will have sold and shipped more then PS2 at the end of 2009 (made january 2009)

It is always the next thing that is going to put the PS3 permanetly on top of the 360. Look the PS3 is going to eventually have a price cut but you have to look, so is the 360. If Microsoft follows the strategegy they have been so far they will release a new model, cut an old one and put it at a discounted price. Don't be surprised if the Arcade eventually has a hard drive. Not to mention don't rule out a slim model of the 360. Each side can speculate all they want that when 'x' action happens 'x' console is going to dominate the other. You have to realize that the opposite company is going to counteract with 'x' action to counteract to put 'x' console back on top.

What we have here is a case of insecurity..... Now tell me, how does that contribute anything productive to this thread, especially when the person who made the comment the OP is referring to ISN'T a PS3 "fanboy"?

Not really, it is the same routine over and over again. The images are for some of the people who responded to the thread with the "wait for the price cut" slogan. You look to be a bit insecure there, Mr. PS3 fan.

Insecure about what exactly? You post pictures which DO NOT pertain to the topic at hand, and yet I'm insecure? Pot calls kettle black..... I'd say so

I have nothing to be insecure about, I own both a 360 and a PS3 so whatever goes down, goes down. The pictures do pertain to the thread because that is exactly what is happening in this thread, "Wait for the price cut...", "Once the price cut comes...". I'm perfectly content, just enjoying the general routine of fanboys.

People who really want a ps3 don't buy a xbox 360 because its cheaper, usually they save up and get a ps3? The current pricing really only has an effect on those who are unsure what console they want

I agree with practically all of what you just said. You need to post a lot more.

Apparently only 1 person actually said that though. Anyway, you have to admit it's a little surprising how a $200 console with more advertising in a bad economy is only just barely beating its $400 rival WW each week. If I were Microsoft I wouldn't exactly be worried, but I would be disappointed.

Actually, they do. In a roundabout way, those are inferring his opinion as to why the 'people' were saying that the 360 was almost getting crushed by the PS3.

The BuShA owns all!

Granted that the 360 numbers are not great you still have to consider the financial numbers. The PS3 would be great at that price point compared to 360 i the double price meant double the revenue for Sony but since that's far from the case it won’t matter how close the consoles are, the margins is what counts in the end.

Sure, by looking at just the price one can think that Sony is doing good but in terms of money created 360 clearly has the edge while Sony creates profit from PSP and PS2 to cover the losses of PS3.

We also have to face the fact that 360 will always be cheaper. Just because PS3 is at a higher price point and would benefit from a cut doesn’t mean that 360 couldn’t do the same. Clearly MS has a better position with actual margins on 360 by looking at the results so a PS3 pricecut could easily be fought with a new 360 price cut.

Don’t know the price points in the US but currently the price in Euro is 399 Euro. This is 2 years after 499/599 Euro point when introduced.

Looking at 360 we have an arcade on 179 Euro, 3 years after the introduction on 299 Euro. For the pro the price cut is better, from 399 Euro to 239 Euro. Don’t know about all of Europe but in Sweden the Pro is the SKU that pushes the most units today.

So the cheapest machine for 360 have more or less the same price distance since the start and from year 2 year the gap has increased.

That’s why I doubt that a price cut from Sony will change anything in the near future. Firstly due to the fact that they are in bad situation when looking at the margins, a 100 dollar/euro slash would put the console in red again. A 50 dollar/euro slash could easily be countered from MS and we would be back on the track again.

So basically, if the sales compared to the price really mattered then the 360 should have been doomed from start but it hasn’t.

Not saying that Sony is doing bad with PS3 but from a financial view it’s the worst machine out there.

As do I, but I at least don't trash talk the 360 at every turn. In fact, I never trash talk any of the consoles. People should see how AWESOME it is to like them ALL, regardless of personal tatse...

I'm not trash talking the PS3, just some of the PS3 fanboys in this thread. You missed the point of the post from the start, just don't worry about it.
