Forums - Gaming - Will Sonic ever get back on top?Or will sega decide to stop making sonic games?

Will sega give up on sonic? The only reason why the ds game(olympics) sold well was because of mario and his buddies.

Sonic needs to find a way to have a unique 3D gameplay that can ideally be called "Sonic." I don't see Sonic goes anywhere though, unless his games just stop selling in the millions across platforms.

Pixel Art can be fun.

Sonic's been making leaps and bounds lately.

The DS games have been great, and Unleashed showed that they've finally figured out how to translate his speedy gameplay into 3D. If only they'd ditch the gimmicks...

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

"Ok, girl's trapped in the elevator, and the power's off.  I swear, if a zombie comes around the next corner..."

They lost their only hope for a good Sonic game when they cancelled this:

Way ahead of its time; judging from the video I would actually buy it unlike every other Sonic game around.

Sega won't stop making Sonic, it still sells well.

They just need to stop with all the gimmicks to make 'em great again.

Sonic Rush on DS is amazing.

They were close to making an awesome Sonic game also with Sonic Unleashed... but then someone decided to invent the Werehog.

Anyway, i think that Sonic should be kept to Handhelds, unless of course its a multi character game like Olympics/Brawl.

SEGA just needs to take all the good and throw it in one games, and No Sonic is a Icon, hes not goin anywhere

Not even Mario will get number one this gen (maybe its biggest game this gen will get it in weekly sales for a week, at most two), thanks to WiiSports bundled, so why should Sonic?

Edit: OK, I checked and Mario Kart should have been first in WW sales for at least 3 weeks, and Super Mario Galaxy should have been too for 3 non consecutive weeks, getting another very strong week at its first Xmas, that was shortly after its release, but that should be all, WiiSports gets a very steady and strong flow thanks to the bundle, so only the strongest games manage to still beat it after their 2nd week. A very good Sonic game would always be smaller than biggest Marios, and even he struggled to stay first more than 3 weeks. So not being at the top doesn't mean a Sonic failure by any means.

What about Mario Kart Wii? It's sold over 15 million which is more than Cod4, GTA 4, and Halo 3.

Sadly, No and No.

MikeB predicts that the PS3 will sell about 140 million units by the end of 2016 and triple the amount of 360s in the long run.
