4. I really liked the characters. :) But I've only played the 2D games.

"In video game terms, RPGs are games that involve a form of separate battles taking place with a specialized battle system and the use of a system that increases your power through a form of points.

Sure, what you say is the definition, but the connotation of RPGs is what they are in video games." - dtewi

As of now I am going to have to say six, but I haven't beaten many of them as of now, so my opinion doesn't stand for much.

IX story is just pure win!

Final Fantasy VII for me it's the only Final Fantasy where I actually cared about what was going to happen to the characters.

Second would have to be Final Fantasy X.

tie between 6 and 9, both had great characters that i cared about and the stories were well paced.

FF4,why do people hate FFXII so much?

*spoiler*

Tough call, but I'd have to say story wise- FFX takes the prize. It had a bit of everything really. A famous, rather arrogant, blitzballer with an inferiority complex regarding his father getting taken to a new land and watching him develop was done amazingly. The supporting characters had their unique personalities and contributed to the story of the game.

Perhaps the defining moment of the game was that kiss that Yuna and Tidus shared. I loved how Tidus was telling her about all the things they could do once she completed her pilgrimage. He was so excited about all of the fun they would have- but Yuna broke down in tears knowing that she couldn't quit her journey. That aspect of unobtainable love was just epic.

The Final one.
