Forums - Sales - What is the profit point for Resident Evil 5?

I was just tracking Resident Evil 5's sales WW on the HD twins, and it's currently at about 3 mil units total. Are there any estimates out there on how much RE5 development, marketing, basically total expenses from RE5's production cost?

I'm curious as to if they've achieved their breakeven point yet, now that sales are starting to die down.

Capcom, if I remember correctly, said they wanted about 3 million shipped or that was their expectations. So I'm assuming that means that they have turned a profit already. But to make a really significant profit they will probably have to sell a good deal more but they are doing fine right now with the game.

they announced last month that they shipped 4 million

@ Zucas- thanks

@Piggy - Interesting. Here on VgChartz, they have just under 3 mil shipped as of current. A 1 mil discrepancy seems like a bit much.

heres an older interview

Takeuchi said he expects RE5 to sell 2 million copies worldwide "at the low end of the scale."

He added, "I'd like to see it start there and eventually reach 3 million copies. I think users in Europe and America will be particularly pleased with the game's content."

Capcom's official target for full-year global RE5 sales is 2.3 million units.

RE isn't as huge of a franchise as most people seem to think (which is a good thing), so Capcom kept their sales expectations sort of low. Given that they've already surpassed them, I'd say they've made a healthy profit and will continue to do so.

Though, I despise RE5 and I despise Capcom even more (especially with their bullshit microtransactions).

In other words there's no hope for a Wii version which is what you are wondering correct?

@mega - You are far from correct. For me, there's a lot more to playing games, it's part of the industry I'm involved in directly. One of our future titles is in a similar genre to Resident Evil 5, so knowing how well the flagship brand for the genre fared is not only relevant, but vital.

Yet, to answer your question, I'll be getting the PC version of the game in Q4 this year. I'm a PC gamer before all else.

Who's "they?" And Vgchartz has sold to customers, not retail.
