Forums - Gaming - Artificial intelligence in games: Less of a priority than last gen?

Operation FLashpoint was one of the few Shooters that i really enjoyed, it was a superb game.

I dont play to many shooters to comment on matter of AI tbh.

AI has always played third fiddle in game development. It still does. Game designers use premade middle ware for graphics, audio, engines, but when it comes to AI. They tend to ground code it almost every game. So instead of making AI important it's kept pretty low.

Theres plenty of AI apis out there, they just don't used much.

Squilliam: On Vgcharts its a commonly accepted practice to twist the bounds of plausibility in order to support your argument or agenda so I think its pretty cool that this gives me the precedent to say whatever I damn well please.

Killzone 2 and Halo 3 have some of the best AI ive ever seen in games...

But as kitler53 said... its mainly all about online play now, so devs tend to spend more time on that than AI.

Do not judge all modern games based on Crysis. Ignoring the shiny, it is not a good game

I quite enjoyed Crysis SP. Better then Far Cry... you can't expect every PC FPS to be Half-Life 2.

Good AI in KZ2 and Halo 3... ahahaha lol...good scripting indeed... but no AI...

Even Lionhead agrees that AI are sub-par in every games we've seen... in that part, we are used to mediocrity...

Evan Wells (Uncharted 2): I think the differences that you see between any two games has much more to do with the developer than whether it’s on the Xbox or PS3.

LOL. No definately not scripted mate. Countles playthroughs of Halo 3 on Legendary show you that they react different all the time. You change your tactics they change theirs. Scripted, thats the quote of the year.

KZ2 and Uncharted both boast fantastic AI, they really do try and flush you out and aggressively flank you, though KZ 2 probably takes the edge

Oh, and Flashpoint 2 is coming out soon, and you would expect it to have great AI, as it meant to be like 100% realistic

KZ2 is a rail fps shooter, with scripted AI,Halo 3 has huge enviorments so scripted AI wouldnt work to well.
