Pretty impressed with first episode!

And snuggle the girls be they short or tall,
Then follow young Mat whenever he calls,
To dance with Jak o' the Shadows."

Yep. And the manga. Along with the Japanese and English strategy guides. And of course the gashapon figures.

if you watch the HD version you will notice the art style is the same as the one on PS3, it feels like it was watercolored.

Thanks @ pbroy

Well, to be frank...the first episode was just average. I wish they had made the artwork closer to the game (it does have the trademark crayon conte style on the characters, but just on the characters. I watched the 720p version) , it would have given the anime a period-piece feeling (and more suitable to the war theme, imo) but it's not really a letdown since I was already expecting this from that animation studio. I really didn't like the imps went full force after a couple civilians and their house...it doesn't make any sense to me to start an invasion on certain town and the first thing they do is to go chasing a particular couple of civilians with most of their heavy artillery? I fear they will go too much the "shonen" way, but hopefully they can instill the serious themes the anime portrays.

I don't know if there was a manga before the game or if there's a manga that was concieved based on the game. I trust Michiko Yokote (who has worked on other great shonen anime as Naruto, Bleach, Kiba, Cowboy Bebop and Ranma to name just a few) so I won't think of the first episode as a weak start, yet. After all many anime series are unimpressive the first few episodes and eventually take off. I was glad to hear the music from the game :D and the voices.

Well it could be explained ... At this point in the story of the anime the Imperial army is known to still be at least half a day away from the town (which btw borders the north east frontier so it's on their way to the capital as well as one of the entry point for the invasion). The gallians from Bruhl are not supposed to know the invador is already at their door, which gives the Imperials a significant advantage to take the town and the region in just one hard swipe. So if they go after Alicia and Welkin it's probably to impeed them to alarm the towns guard.

What you are seeing is certainly NOT the heavy artillery of the imperial force; you saw two light tanks and a squadron of soldiers which is part of the vanguard of the imperial invasion heading into Bruhl. Please remember that you do not encounter the heavy tanks until way later on in the game, and that the entire Bruhl town defense was doing a fighting retreat in the initial part of the game, which implies that a much larger force is incoming than the tiny pittance shown in the first episode.

You can also consider that this is a world where there is no planes and most likely very limited form of communication, especially consider the absolute poor logistic intel as displayed by the Bruhl town defense. Scouts and the element of surprise could play an absolutely critical role in winning the day. We know the empire was blitzing into Gallia at amazing speed which generally means limited supply train, any competent commander would recognize that a runner could make his objective that much more difficult. Forewarn is forearmed, and a unaware town would be so much more easier to take.

Streaming this from my PC to my PS3, thanks to some searching, found a media server that allows the PS3 to watch MKV files, what a gem! Brought tears to my eyes to see this anime play through my ps3.

Which one do you use, I use Tversity but it doesnt let me stream OGM files T___T

still awesome though.

I'm at work and my noggin isn't on straight, I'll post again at home, I'm not sure about ogm files actually, I rarely encounter them and dislike the extension (yes I know, that about as fickle as you can get :D).

Edit: I'm sure it's not Tversity
