Forums - Sony - Where will Sony take the PSP2?

These are not predictions, more what I would like to see.

I would go with online distribution of games + in-box games. Console gamers like packaging, but people may be more inclined to buy on impulse.

Built-in memory, flash memory prices are plummeting, so I would like them to avoid moving parts.

(also: stop talking about DS in a PSP thread.)

I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.

Sony has had a front row view of Nintendo's success with both the Nintendo DS and Wii and (because of how different the corporate philosophies are) has no understanding of their success; the exact same thing can be said about Sony in regards to the success Apple has had with the iPod.

I expect the PSP2 will come with a 640x480 pixel multi-touch screen, 32GB built in memory, built in wifi and web-camera, built in motion controls, have an 8cm optical drive based on blu-ray and have enough processing power to be labeled a "Portable PS3". It will have a sales price of $400 with very limited sales.

Uh...PSP>PS2 graphics.

No its not

Even the Sega Dreamcast has slightly better graphics than the Playstation Portable. In fact, the Sega Dreamcast, although graphically inferior to the Playstation 2 as a whole, is stronger in certain graphical aspects, than the Playstation 2.

IMO they shouldn't make a PSP2, rather create a third tier for their gaming hardware. Much like when Nintendo announced the DS. They specifically said it was not the successor to the GBA but rather a new product. This would be very good for sony since they can continue to support the PSP and thus not abandon PSP owners. The new device shouldn't be called PSP but something different. This will get new attention and hype because its a brand new line of products from sony. With it they should stick to strictly gaming. Multimedia has not helped to sell systems. For example the NGage and Gizmondo both failed and tried using multimedia to sell systems. The new product should use some type of cartridge since discs mean moving parts which equals bad battery life, plus with cartridge you cut out the expense of buying a memory card or the need for a hdd or flash memory. It shouldnt be download only since I couldnt imagine Gamestop selling them if they cant make money off used game. It should offer a new way to game that cant be accomplished with any other competitor system. Motion is not a good idea since you will move the screen as you move the system and that cant be easy to see. The system should have a screen that wont be easily scratched and seem sturdy and small so it can be taken easily on the go. Finally it needs to be cheap!!! Handhelds can not cost as much as a home console, it just wont sell.

errrrr PSP does have PS2 quality graphics,

Way to make assumptions on the PSP2 when you know nothing of the PSP to begin with.

I wish Sony would just grow up and stop putting proprietary formats in their systems just to push that format. The reason the PSP battery life sucks isn't because "OMG ITS UBER POWERFUL" - the UMD is a stupid format for a portable system.

Anyway, for PSP2: it won't happen.

These ideas of a brand new handheld might be a good thing. The PSP is not very profitable for the devs, so they will hesitate to develop for the PSP2. But, if Sony is to make a brand new product (I don't think they will abandon the name PlayStation though), and come with something new (+ I hope they will finally know how to market the thing), they might stand a bigger chance.

Sign the Resident_Evil_5_Petition for a Wii release or Dark_Samus is going to come get you.

I think the PSP2 will be aprox. 2-3 times as powerfull as the first one , and it will have a 2oo-25o dollar launch pricetag . It will be launched somwhere around o9-1o , but I bet that it will be or in the same time or faster than Nintendo . Also , seeing how Sony started to really support the PSP , I expect much batter marketing next time .

PS : the PSP is more powerfull than the PS2 ... the only problem is the small 48o.272 screen , wich makes some games to look not as clear as the PS2s . Also , I agree that the Dreamcast could have come out with some great looking games , maybe batter than the PSPs , if it would have leaved a year or to , but the games that came out didnt looked as good as the PSP big titles . Oh and dont give me Crazy Taxy as example ... thats just a mediocre port .

Vote the Mayor for Mayor!

no the psp is not stronger than the ps2, it has more megahertz but that doesn't mean it's stronger. just like with amd and intel, or in itel new vs old the new have less gigahertz but are still 2-3 times as fast.
