Forums - Sales - ps3 modern warfare 2 to compete with 360 version?

COD on 360 is too huge of a seller, a PS3 version will never outsell the 360 version.

MW2 will probably sell more comprabably to MW1 vs WAW. MW is more popular in NA while WAW is more popular in Europe.

I think 2:1 is a realistic expectation for MW2 LTD sales.

Out of the 2 regions, WaW sold 45.7% in others and MW sold 46.4% in others on the PS3. On the 360 WaW sold 29.4% in others, with MW selling 28.4% there. Granted there might be a slight difference if I compared them at an equal time from launch, but it shows that the sales patterns didn't really change between the two games.

I like how everyone fully read and understood the OP. He never said that the PS3 version would outsell the 360 version, just that the PS3 version may come within a very close second. Maybe it will be like;

8.5M Xbox
7.2M PS3

which would be considerably more competitive than the numbers posted for COD4.

Of course the PS3 competes with the 360 version, but your example doesn't proof much:

Call of Duty 4

360: 7.21m (63,6%)

ps3: 4.12m (36,4%)

Call of Duty: World at War

360: 5.24m (62,6%)

ps3: 3.13m (37,4%)

Not much of a difference huh ?

also cod 4 came out in 2007 when the ps3 was being rape

I'll looked at all the next gen call of duty's since 4, and the ps3 looks to be catching up.

call of duty 4

360: 7.21m

ps3: 4.12m

sales difference - 3.09m

call of duty: World at War

360: 5.24m

ps3: 3.13m

sales difference - 2.11m

So hopefully for ps3 owners, modern warfare 2 will possibly follow this trend and only make a 1 million sales lead for the xbox 360. thoughts??

Using your numbers:
COD4 Purchased by:
24% of 360 owners
19% of PS3 owners

Difference 5%

COD5 purchased by:
17% of 360 owners (Dropped 7%)
14% of PS3 owners (Dropped 5%)

Difference 3%

They just might end up being equal next time around

The gaps do seem to be decreasing between multiplatform titles as the generation continues...I thought it was just the sports games but it might be all. I have noticed that street fighter and resident evil sales have been close and I don't think the playstation name is the reason why.

You picked a bad example here. The reason is Capcom and thus the Japanese gamers.

Devil May Cry 4 came out one year ago and had similar sales back then.

Its highly possible, 1 things for sure, this game will be massive! It could be the game that outsells Halo 3 on the 360.

Owner of 360

Future owner of a PS3 (when it drops to $300)

Yeah, but i don't think the online community stayed strong on the PS3....i may be wrong though.

Thanks for the numbers Yakuzaice, sales patterns for both games did follow a similiar pattern.  If everything remains constant sales will probaby reflect 1.75 : 1 for MW2. world wide.

I wonder if the wii version of WAW pulled numbers from the 360 version in north america?
