That's called "doing the Gamespot"
It looks great, and the review was quite positive until the very end: "7 hours... little replay value... rental."
We don't provide the 'easy to program for' console that they [developers] want, because 'easy to program for' means that anybody will be able to take advantage of pretty much what the hardware can do, so the question is what do you do for the rest of the nine and half years? It's a learning process. - SCEI president Kaz Hirai
It's a virus where you buy it and you play it with your friends and they're like, "Oh my God that's so cool, I'm gonna go buy it." So you stop playing it after two months, but they buy it and they stop playing it after two months but they've showed it to someone else who then go out and buy it and so on. Everyone I know bought one and nobody turns it on. - Epic Games president Mike Capps
We have a real culture of thrift. The goal that I had in bringing a lot of the packaged goods folks into Activision about 10 years ago was to take all the fun out of making video games. - Activision CEO Bobby Kotick
little replay value? i played through god of war 9 times just to master techniques and difficulties... with the much more complicated fighting style in HS i'm sure it'll warrant more than one play through... hell, i've played the demo 20+ times... then again, that's why not all of these reviewers are master ninjas =p
i can't wait to get it, woohoo, kickin ass, redhead style!

The guys of Penny Arcade didn't lke it very much either. Listen to the podcast for their opinions, it's kind of funny as always:

(The Heavenly Sword stuff starts at about 8 minutes)
The beginning about "the console wars" and reviews in general is interesting a well.
I'll be reviewing this game early next week (after I wrap up BD, which impressed me enough to buy the game) and I hope that it offers more than the demo did. The demo wasn't baddddd, but...
I popped in GoW just after the Heavenly Sword demo and honestly, the Heavenly Sword gameplay didn't hold up, especially with GoW upscaled. HS has some tough competition that came before it and unless the gameplay really shines, I don't see myself giving it a really high rating (though it probably won't receive a low rating either).
To be honest, I'm really worried about that 7 hour gameplay thing with no multiplayer. For $60, gamers deserve better. I'll review it unbiasedly but if it turns out that the game clocks in at 7 hours with little replay value, that definitely lowers its score. There may be a few who want to replay it over and over and over again (for Christsakes, I know people who played through FFVII nine or ten times) but those are the distinct minority and reviewers have to base their opinions on the majority, not the select few who become obsessed with a game and play it over 19 times.
I've watched the original Star Wars trilogy probably 150 times since I was born (a conservative number) and still love the movies. That doesn't mean I get pissed off when someone says they're "okay"... I just love the movies. They're a hobby of mine (and a nightmare for my wife). It doesn't mean I disregard another viewer for not liking it as much as I do.

... this is very true. It's not easy to be a Master Ninja. Shit, I'm in chapter 14... Respect.
Is the game actually 7hrs long, as in Nariko's life timer? Or does the game last 7hrs with all the cut scenes and everything else. I just hope it is challenging enough to make it longer. I'd be disappointed if it was easy to get through the whole game.
Damn pre-orders... I already paid mine :(

The guys from Penny Arcade said they played through it in 5 and a half hours, which included watching the cut scenes and taking breaks. |
It's also scary too that they goofed off during it... and kept talking about how you were in slow motion too much. Whatever though, it's never been more then a game i'd pick up used at gamestop anyway, which i probably will about a year from now. If anything this just means that they'll definitly be copies available.
