Forums - Gaming Discussion - Should I buy a Xbox 360 or a PS3 ?

Chrizum said:
I don't own a 360, but I do own a PS3 (and a Wii).

I can only say: go for the 360 UNLESS you absolutely love Killzone 2, Resistance or Uncharted. 360 has a lot more games, a lot more exclusives, has better multiplatform games and is cheaper.

PS3 is a better multimedia system but lacks the games.

Totally agree with Chrizum,

I own a 360 (59 retail games and 19 live arcade games, 78 games in total) and PS3 (9 retail games, 5 PSN games, 14 games in total) and I play my 360 each and every day without fail, the PS3 I use once or twice a month and tend to get bored pretty quickly, My PS3 was a gift before I got my 360, I would NOT have bought one out of my own money as I feel it offers far less than the 360 at a much higher price,

For price get a 360, for games selection get a 360, for multiplatform games get a 360, for online get a 360, for achievements in every single game (not crappy trophies in a small amount of games) get a 360, for custom music/chat/video chat in EVERY game get a 360, for blu ray movies get a PS3, want exclusives? get a 360 or PS3 (I prefer 360 exclusives but others prefer PS3's super hyped exclusives that tend to disappoint for some bizarre reason),

All in all it's very much your choice, your best seeing what exclusives each system offers that take your fancy then go from there....

Good points Rpruett.

Id just like to make it known though for the TC's benefit as well, that in terms of shooters and RPGs, I personally think that its harder to say youre a fan of those genres and not play Gears, Halo 3, Left 4 Dead, Fable 2, Mass Effect, Lost Odyssey than saying you havent played Uncharted, Resistance, Killzone 2, Valkyria Chronicles, Disgaea 3. And also have the option to get Fallout 3 DLC.

Just my opinion.

Oh you certainly could make a case for it.  Again it depends on opinion though.  I hate Left 4 Dead on a console.  It's designed for PC, IMHO.   Gears is a great game and while I loved Halo:CE....Halo 3 isn't for me at all.  I see what you're saying though and that's totally valid.

In the same realm,  I guess I could say that the PS3 is actually a little better in terms of sports games then because of MLB:The Show.

But again, games come down to the person.

I dont really think so personally. I love football and ice hockey so thats why Id buy FIFA and NHL but dont even know the rules for baseball or American football so would never buy MLB or Madden. Sports is such a wide genre but if you say its better for baseball games then yes Id agree. Its harder to say youre a fanatic baseball game fan and not play MLB I agree.

In terms of what you said regarding shooters, its a much more focused genre. Your opinion seems to be youd rather play it on the PC which is not really what the TC is deciding on - specific HD console rather than choice of platform. Maybe your answer is - none, get a PC. Personally I am an RPG fanatic so since most JRPGs and Fable dont come out on PC (and I dont have money to upgrade) my answer is 360. For shooters, no Gears 2, nuff said.

Depends on the genre you like. Whichever genre you like, the 360 will most likely win in that category.

I have both, and the only thing I'm using my PS3 for is for upscaling my PS2 games. Get a 360.

ect.

+ Blu-Ray. the ps3 is awesome and this say i...i'm a multi gamer^^ but.. PS3>>>>box

the best RPG's are coming 2013 !!!! oh my god, this is perfect for RPG-GAMER = ) Ni No Kuni - 25 january, Time and Eternity, tales of xillia (PS3) and the maybe best game ever: metal gear solid ground zero

I own a ps3, but threads like this are just about pointless. Too much spin from people of all perspectives. There is a lot of overlap between the two game libraries. Ask yourself... what exclusives do you care about? do you care about media functionality/bluray? Do you want to play online? Are you ok with paying for a superior online service? What do your friends own (good thing to consider if you want to borrow games from them)? ...do you want to play online with them?

lots of questions that you need to answer. This thread could go on for 20 pages and you still wouldn't have anything definitive. There isn't a wrong choice. Just buy what you determine to be more suitable.

Demon's Souls Official Thread  | Currently playing: Left 4 Dead 2, LittleBigPlanet 2, Magicka

Game types you enjoy (Shooters, RPGs, Sports)?  -  Both systems provide an equally enjoyable experience. IMHO.

Price - The 360 simply gives you a lower entry cost, although it may result in a higher end cost depending on your usage. The 360 still provides a best price to someone on a budget.

Value - The PS3 simply gives you the most bang for your buck.  Depending on your tastes though (Blu-Ray, Need for Wireless, etc), it may not be for you.  Still the PS3 provides someone the most advanced piece of hardware package at a reasonable price.

Reliability -  The PS3 simply is the more reliable system.  Although the 360 has supposedly improved on this.  Between RRODs and other issues (Many that aren't covered under warranties) it's easy to give the PS3 a nod.    (For example, my 360s disc tray broke and wouldn't read discs anymore. In order to get it repaired, it would cost me $110 as it wasn't covered under the warranty).

Upcoming game releases?  - This is where your opinion kicks in.  Personally,  I think the PS3 has a far better, more diverse,  future lineup at this point and for the foreseeable future. (God of War III, Gran Turismo 5, Heavy Rain, Uncharted 2, MAG, New Ratchet and Clank, etc).  But this category is the most personal opinion based one of the bunch.  So just take a look yourself.

Great post!

That is so PS3 biased... lol

Not really.  I prefer the PS3 to the 360.   But game enjoyment is purely a matter of personal opinion.  Price clearly favors the 360 in terms of entry point.  Reliability clearly favors the PS3 and Value I guess 'could maybe be' a tad biased.  But the PS3 does give you a Blu-Ray player, WiFi, Free Online for $400.   Add those costs onto the cheapest 360 model and include XBL fees.

Ok but, if we are talking about a gaming machine, I don't care about blu-ray, wifi (useless for gaming) etc...

A pure gamer would rather spend money into gaming rather than electronics...

IMO, this "value argument" is a Sony marketing spin : Real value is about getting more for less money, not getting more for more because... you just paid for it, that is no added-value... people on this forum don't understand that apparently...

360 has more value : It is the most succesful HD console on the market and it is available with crazy bundles..that is value to me: You wanna play ? You get the console and 2 AAA titles for 290 € or a HALO Pack for 260 €.

I have no problem with people willing to pay more for blu-ray... but this is not gaming related..(and don't come on me with the advantage of BR on gaming...this is just storage..).

Evan Wells (Uncharted 2): I think the differences that you see between any two games has much more to do with the developer than whether it’s on the Xbox or PS3.

Neither console is marketed as purely gaming machine though now is it? Both are categorized as multi-media machines.

No the the 'value argument' is not Sony marketing spin.  Value is getting something for less than it's worth.  Getting a bargain.  There is a reason people by the PS3 and make clusters with them.  The hardware in them is a total value.   Add up what the features would cost to put onto your 360.  ($100 for Wifi, $150 or more for Blu-Ray attachment, $50 a year for Live).

You actually get gaming advantages with more storage.  Less compression is always a good thing for a gamer.   The 360 wins on price, but not value IMO.

Why the f*ck would we (360 users) want to do that ???!!!!!!!!!!!

I didn't get the 360 to add some features on it, like BR, sport spoilers, rocket turbine and heated cup-holder..damn...

That is why I'm saying it is a PS3-biased comparaison.
