Of course they will survive because they have an entire farm of money trees! :P

No seriously, they have their TVs, DVDs, CD players, MP3 players, computers... Well lots of stuff that is bringing bags of money without the PS3/PSP.

I don't know about the MP3 players or computers. Apple pretty much took most of their business.

I think that these questions could be asked of all three console vendors. And I think that if any or any of the consoles/portables are not successful by the end of this gen or the next, NextGen they will have to evaluate their business models going forward.

Also, the wildcard in the console wars is the continuing evolution of PCs... If you could buy a low cost, simple to use, PC that would allow you to use it to play games, connect to any screen in the house, surf the net, do your office work, provide all your multi-media entertainment, manage your home, and have multiple users then what would the value of a console device be? PC vendors like Dell and HP have clearly stated they don't see consoles living past the next, next generation. They obviously have something in mind to fill that gap. And with Microsoft "hedging" a lot of their gaming bets on the PC with software and integration, I think that they are in with PC vendors together.

If this gen goes down the shitter for Sony, I believe they will try to reinvent themselves like Sega did with the Dreamcast.

They will leave the console wars for good, and even though nintendo lost bad before they will just leave because they arent nintendo.

@happy squrriel

It was only japan not the rest of the world.

And it was only about there share value . Yes , maybe it was more powerfull , but it didnt say how many shares , because Sony has probably 5oooook while I dont think that Sony has more than 1oooook shares ... the share value was higher not the overall . And that to only in Japan .

No. You shouldn't comment on something you have zero knowledge. Unless you're being sarcastic, then ignore what I said.

Really , than please explain it to me ... I read about this on GS back when it was released , and this is exactly what I and proabbly 9o% of the people understand ... You know not every company has the same amount of shares , how do you think Sony can sell now shares worth of 3.2 billion dollars ? I know that Nintendos share went of from 16 to 45 dolars in a year , but that still says nothing about the companys overall value .

Just stop, you're digging yourself into a deeper hole.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Market_capitalization - read this and then see HappySquirels post. Currently, Nintendo has a market cap at 64 million. Sony is at 47 million.

As for stock value, Nintendo is at 56.85 and Sony is at 47.35.

OMG , now I dont know nothing ... Im digging myself deeper ... the only poster who came up with any proof was dgm , and even his proof confirmed my theory ... also I dont know who sayd it , but actually affirming that share ammount doesnt counts for nothing ... commom people , thats prettty .... wait , I wont offend nobody , I saw how people can become oversensitive on this site . If you dont want to bealive me , than dont , but please dont state that I dont know something and than for proof dont give nothing ( for the guy who doesnt wants to explain ) .

Vote the Mayor for Mayor!

ok two things:

1) Nintendo is worth more than Sony. In market cap, which is the most important factor. If some large company wanted to buy Nintendo and Sony right now, they would have to spend more money on Nintendo than Sony. Nintendo also currently has a higher profit ($1.4 billion vs $842 million) and more cash on hand despite lower revenue.

2) Considering SCE lost a huge amount of money in the last few quarters, yet Sony as a whole was still profitable. Sony would survive the loss of the entire Playstation division, but it would definitely be a massive loss. It really is a very large part of the company and pretty much single handedly held it up for the last few years while consumer electronics was sucking it up.

Help! I'm stuck in a forum signature!

I think the PS brand wouldn't be a huge loss, but Blu-ray is the future of Sony. I BD flops, they will survive, but they will loose a shitload of cash. But, as it looks now, BD is winning, and I doubt HD-DVD will get the upper hand.
