Forums - Sony - What if Blu-ray, PS3 and PSP died. Would Sony survive?

Microsoft seeing a chance to kill the PS3 throws ridiculous amounts of money at HD-DVD. All the big studios come over and HD-DVD becomes the new standard. This prompts a sharp decline in PS3 sales and a big uptake in 360 sales. Developers declare they will wait to see if the PS3 survives before continuing development on PS3 games, except for those that are almost done. This is a critical blow and consumers stop buying for fear of no or few new games ever coming out for it.

Won't happen. It's too late for HDDVD, the biggest studios are behind Blu-Ray, and 4.5 million PS3s are already out in the wild. Microsoft shot themselves in the foot, by not including HDDVD or any next-gen storage media in the 360.

Consumers will buy the PS3 because its price is coming down fast, its reliable as hell, HDTVS are finally affordable, and there are great games coming out for the system.

Slorg: I dunno. Imagine if the Xbox 360 had their failure rate + a 200 dollar increased price tag for the HDDVD drive. I imagine that extra 200 bucks would add a nice deal more to the pissed rate.

See Ya George.

"He did not die - He passed Away"

At least following a comedians own jokes makes his death easier.

HD media, whether it be Blu-ray or HD-DVD isn't really catching on as expected.

4.5 wont do jack shit, im suprised that blue ray isnt completely dominating then if it has such a huge lead, HD dvd is fighting back, and there is no way you can predict the winner yet, but it is very clear blue ray is winning right now, but that does not mean it is at all too late for hd dvd

With regard to Call of Duty 4 having an ultra short single player campaign, I guess it may well have been due to the size limitations of DVD on the XBox 360, one of various limitations multi-platform game designers will have to take into consideration-Mike B

Game trailers-Halo 3 only dissapointed the people who wanted to be dissapointed.

Bet with Harvey Birdman that Lost Odyssey will sell more then Blue dragon did.

Wal-mart sells over half the DVDs in the USA. Wal-mart is going to nickel and dime to get the best deal. It's anybody's guess if they will choose one or both formats, but they could change the face of the format wars in an instant.

Wal-mart could sell 4.5 million players in a week if the price was low enough.

The playstation brand is only a small part of the Sony conglomareta . They have other electonics , banks , investments , studios etc. I estimate the íps brand is less then 2o% of the entire thing called Sony :)

Vote the Mayor for Mayor!

The only thing i love about Sony is their mobile division...
OT: yeah, they would survive and just their gaming division dies and they focus more on their other products.

Wow, you guys do know that the article that said that nintendo was worth more than sony for a moment was only in japan right? This does not inlcued the rest of the world just japan.
