Forums - Microsoft - 360 D-Pad, just why did they design it like that?

Try playing Dance Dance Revelation on The Simpsons Game and you will discover how bad the 360 D-Pad really is.

BTW, is there a 3rd party controller with a decent D-Pad?

I've never tried them, but the Mad Catz controllers look like they have a SNES style d-pad.

wow.. ok cool... I thought I missed this weeks "360 D-Pad Sucks Thread"....

I don't really use the D-Pad on the 360, PS3, Xbox, PS2, but when I do use them, they all work fine for me...

lol don't be silly...This is baggins, the one who seeks truth and knowledge...

I'm asking why?

Not just saying "it's shit" like everyone eles and leaving the thread.

^^COOL! THX!

Thanks for explaining WHY it is crap. So it's all down to patents!!!

I find that hard to believe.

All controllers have bad/mediocre D-Pads, its seriously not a priority anymore. For the people who do care for fighting games, you can get fighting pads/sticks. For people who don't you probably won't notice anythings wrong with the stock pads anyway.

They don't all have rubbish d-pads, the Xbox does, the PS3 does not. When I played Assassin's Creed, on PS3 I would always change to the weapon I wanted, on the 360 I managed to change 50% of the time, that may just be me being retarded, but it is annoying. I also used it to nagivate menus on LO, because I was used to doing that on my PlayStations, but I just gave up as it was useless. D-pads are pretty rubbish, but M$ should have come up with something better

As for the PES controller, I think it was only a limited release

well the sidewinder had the crappiest D- pad.. ever..

same goes for the 360..

why dont they just get a patent from sega.. :)

Doubt is not a pleasant condition, but certainty is absurd.

c. redesgined PS controller

d. SEGA back in the console business

I think every possible good d-pad design was patented by someone else.

I would assume this.  Nintendo and Sony already took the best d-pad designs and likely have them patented up the hizzo.

Nintendo;s D-Pad >>> Sega's (Dreamcast's) D-Pad (Almost the same) >>>>>> Sony's D-Pad >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> MS'S D-Pad.

who does really use the D-pad anymore beside for some secondary options/actions in games ???? Fighting games... that always blows my balls when I hear that answer.... when was the last time you saw an arcade fighting game with a D pad.... i always played fighting games with the stick.... do a half circle back is way easier that way IMO...

now PS D pad is admitably better... the problem is the sony pad as it self is about as bad for me than the nintendo rectangle pad is today.... and you can try to accuse me of fanboyism or being biased... the fact is I cramp up way more with the PS pads and get blisters with their d pad and buttons than any other pads out there... I
